I was interested in this lurid lot mostly because Paint Me a Murderer steals its cover art from one of my favorite books: The Riddle of the Traveling Skull by Harry Stephen Keeler.

Anyone know why people would pay this kind of money for these tapes?

did I ever tell you guys about the Fresno Nightcrawler doll body

back when I was seeking a body for Renata, a French fashion doll head I’ve had around since last Christmas and just completed, I would frequently trawl eBay looking for suitable options. nothing was ever in my budget or the right size. but one day, I found this

now, at first glance, two things are apparent about this doll body

1. it is in remarkably good shape. the kid leather barely seems to have yellowed, as is common with these sorts of bodies, and I don’t see any leaks. also, gusset-jointed knees are always a bonus

2. it has no arms

no arms would not be an insurmountable obstacle. it might take time, but antique arms of an appropriate size could be procured. even a head would be difficult but not impossible to find. they do come up on the market, even if they tend to be ruinously expensive

(pretty much everything about these dolls is ruinously expensive unless you get extremely lucky. I have thus far been extremely lucky. also I know how to repair them, so I can buy the really damaged ones for relatively cheap and fix them up)

but there’s something else wrong with this doll. see, FF torsos are generally less...stumpy. they are what auctioneers trying to sell things without regard for how creepy they might sound describe as “shapely lady bodies”

the white lines above show the shape of a normal FF body. pardon the shakiness; I don’t have a tablet

those long things at the shoulders are strips of leather that go around the bisque shoulder plate to make in integrate into the body with a smooth line

in this picture, you can see the line of the shoulder plate under the kid and how the leather is smoothly glued over it

so even without arms, that body has some serious bits missing

and the seller makes no mention of the missing arms or torso bits in the listing. they only describe it as “nice” and in “beautiful condition!”

leading me to assume that this listing bled into our world from an alternate universe where the Fresno Nightcrawler is the dominant life form
