WTW PLANET PROMPTS - PLANET NAME: Day 2 - Venus - Politics

The Council is the governing body that controls Heim. Seven members are elected from a pool of the elite families of the city, tasked with the running of the country for an undisclosed period of time. Whilst the only democratic government in the known world, voting rights are restricted to men of certain age, background, address and status. Elections are held in secret and whilst the families are not permitted to promote themselves, many a seat has been bought and paid for.

WTW PLANET PROMPTS - PLANET NAME: Day 8 - Neptune - Lore or Mythology

I know the tale. It's from Kuzgrad, not well known amongst the other provinces but Mamma had read it to me on many a cold winter night when the howls in the night grew too close. The Winter Wolf, the great beast that had saved a human boy from a snow storm, raising it until its own could find the boy. The wolf watched over the boy until he was a man and in return, no wolf was ever hunted in those lands again. It was said that whenever called upon, the wolf would appear, sworn always to guard the boys descendants. It was a children's tale, of course, but when I remember the reports of flocks of livestock and patrols vanishing in the snows, I shudder to remember that the Winter Wolf still has one more descendant to watch over in this life. And he's standing right beside me, recounting this take for the frightened children.

It is a lie.

There had been been a her. There has always been a her, though I had felt something for Dynaera. Katya had never been far from my thoughts. Even an ocean apart, her letters had sustained me, they had given me life. I couldn’t settle being a secret for anybody, not after my life in Hiem. But she had never been far from my thoughts, haunting me, gracing me.

WTW RELATIONSHIPS WEEK - Day 4 - Love Interest 

His heart is racing beneath mine, the heat of his skin burning through me like a brand. For the longest time, I can do nothing more than lie there, in his embrace with my forehead resting on his shoulder. When I finally lift my head from Nikolai’s shoulder, it is only settle a long lingering kiss on his collar bone. I raise my eyes to his, struck by how beautiful he looks bathed in the last light of the dying day. His skin is smooth like the surface of a polished pearl pulled from crystalline waters, the sunlight bathing him in a warm glow.  Nikolai gets that smirk on his lips, the kind that demands to be kissed off immediately for its impertinence. He unhooks my hair from behind my ear, winding the lock around his fingers.

WTW RELATIONSHIPS WEEK - Day 6 - Family 

"Henrik, Pyotyr, Yaroslav, Joachim, Ernst, Carol, Leopold and then me," Olezka recites. 'Henrik was the oldest, he was going to be the Grand Duke. Pyotyr was the clever one, he was going to university. Yaroslav was in the army, he was a regimental colonel - not just honourary. Joachim was the best at telling stories - Mikhail loved him because he used to lend him books. Ernst was the best with animals, he had a dog that used to sleep on his bed - though Mama always made a fuss. Carol was a vain, silly old thing but he was very good to me. Leopold was five years older than me. But he always played with me. Even when the others used to make fun of him for never leaving the nursery. I'm older now than he was... When it happened. I'll be older than all of them one day."

‘Because he’s suddenly developed a tape worm?’ I gesture to the rather large amount of food on the table by the sofa.

‘No, because of the concussion–’ Olezka stammers to a choke, eyes lifting over my shoulder where the others have grown very still. ‘Um, because… That is to say... He didn't do anything.'

Alekks throws him a look, something torn between amusement, admiration and pain.
