Thoughts on the discourse between Chelsie Worthy's "traptorial" makeup style being infringed on by both Patrick Starrr and Manny MUA? I don't follow the latter but I've enjoyed Chelsie's content since I first saw one of her videos on here.
Jackie Aina is now also in the mix because she retweeted Patrick's video due to it using her collaboration pallette with Anastasia Beverly Hills. This put coal into the fire since she has heralded herself as the voice/protector of black people in the beauty community, especially black women. Given that both Patrick and Manny are non-black and Chelsie is a dark-skinned black woman, it's made people side-eye Jackie for the apology she delivered when Chelsie called out Patrick, who is Jackie's friend.
It's all a big mess, but honestly???
It's stupid.
I don't understand why when people are rightfully called out for their bad choices, they can't just take the L gracefully and apologize and remove the offending material. Like, is it so hard to be an adult? Are a couple dollar bills from ad revenue really worth showing that you're a clown?
So much more is lost by trying to beat around the bush to save face than to be like, "I'm sorry, I messed up, I'll let others know that this was my mistake and won't do it again."
Influencers overcomplicate everythinggg because they know that what they say is going to be spread around social media whether they want it to or not, but all they need to do is handle it like they're in grade school and just got caught cheating on a math test. It is not hard to be a good person.
As for Jackie, she fumbled. Her comment didn't address Chelsie's claims or aggravations at all—and given the position she has put herself in as a beacon for the black beauty community, it should have. Jackie needed to acknowledge that she unknowingly signal boosted plagiarized content, deleted it and apologized. It's that simple.
Times like this are when you show what you're made of, and in Jackie's case I believe she fell into that social media trap of keeping it all cute because Patrick is a friend and Manny works in their business as well. However, when you've built yourself up as someone who calls out the injustice against your people, you can't always keep it cute. You have to get your hands dirty at some points.
I like Jackie but I do think she messed up here. Now the spotlight of the situation is on her because of who she is and the poorly executed apology, when it really should be on Patrick and Manny. Sigh.
