Remembering the great war - Hendaye, France, July 2018

One of the many, many WW1 memorial sites you can find in France. The number of names on these memorials contrasting with the size of the town always provides a stark reminder that while WW2 was more gruesome in it’s atrocities, the first world war wiped out entire generations in the participating countries.

The ‘German Soldiers’ Graves’ complex holds 3,500 graves for people who died in World War I, mostly members of the German military, but also some prisoners of war.

Visited the WW1 memorial and museum. It was chilly out but otherwise it was a clear and beautiful day.

Also to get into the museum itself you have to cross a glass bridge and in the process of doing so I discovered I have a minor phobia of walking over glass like that.

Contributions are still flooding in to ‘The Listening Station’ (2018) in Cheltenham. The exhibition houses a ‘break-out’ room that allows members of the public to share thoughts, ideas & drawings related to the exhibition, the archive & World War One.
