When morale is low due to losses in the skies above Germany, the top brass brings in the big guns… Thelma! Her presence on a base will turn any frown upside down! Thelma is posed atop a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.

Now and Then : A B-17 of the 95th Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force, leaves its target at Rostock, German covered with smoke from bomb bursts during a mission on 11 April 1944 (often noted as 11th of January, 1944).  This particular aircraft is B-17 42-32066 “Silver Slipper”.  On December 16th, 1944 it sustained battle damage on a mission to Stuttgart. Upon return it ran off the runway and into mud. A while back I had posted a rough showing Zero fighters squaring off against Hellcats. After going back to that piece I wasn’t feeling it anymore so I started something new with one of my favorite planes....the J2M Jack. This one shows two of them trying to get at a straggling B-29 while the P-51 escort tries to intervene. Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Gelsey in this tropical salute to P-51 Mustang. As Gelsey walks through the USAAF base, her vibrant Hawaiian attire turned heads faster than the roar of P-51 Mustangs overhead, making her the most dazzling sight on the tarmac. With each flutter of her skirt, she left behind a trail of envious glances from the pilots, who couldn't decide whether to fly or follow her.

Still hurts seeing this 😔😢 Video screen capture from NOVA program B-29 Frozen in Time (1996). . B-29 Kee Bird was a United States Army Air Forces Boeing B-29 Superfortress, serial 45-21768, of the 46th Reconnaissance Squadron, that became marooned after making an emergency landing in northwest Greenland during a secret Cold War spying mission on 21 February 1947. While the entire crew was safely evacuated after spending three days in the isolated Arctic tundra, the aircraft itself was left at the landing site. It lay there undisturbed until 1994, when a privately funded mission was launched to repair and return it.
