I found love, it feels weird

its overwhelming

and sometimes too much

when you're an introvert love feels like its smothering you but in a good way

does that make sense? im not sure, but it does for me

its like sticking your hand in fire watching it burn but not wanting to pull out, an intense amount of feeling or reaction

A love that is constant and unwielding

Making it difficult to access your own feelings

You know that love, that has you picturing weddings, and making a home together

a love found in story books except its not a fairytale its more realistic

its more passionate, its more painful, and its you, him, its you and him, the feeling of becoming one and not seperate, its a love you wont be able to even fathom letting go

yea i know that kind of love

The Almost

Roses smell like “don’t worry, I’ll take care of you,” but the first time he gave one to me, I didn’t believe that’s what it meant. It was red and it confused me. A red rose doesn’t come before the “L” word, a word I’m left waiting on.

I hate that anticipation. Waiting and waiting for something to give. He’s got a poker face like a brick building and I sometimes think he’s dumb when he gives me a rose. Nothing gives except the button on his jeans as he tries to express this particular appreciation for me.

Sometimes he is only a warm body. When he misunderstands me, I want him out of my bed and out of my apartment. He’s too positive for his own good. He didn’t say what he wanted, just decided to be close to me and I suppose we’re both selfish to let it happen.

But he’s like a dog. If I kick him out, he’s ready to come back when I call, his fetching stick equaling another red rose.

The Air Jordan 1 has a special place in my heart as it sits as one of my favorite shoes to have ever been made to date. Reason for this being not only the slick look and ability to be worn both athletically or casually but also the history that is behind such a sneaker.  When Michael Jordan left the University of North Carolina, there was a lot of hype behind the young superstar who was expected to go high in the NBA draft.  Sonny Vaccaro was the one who pushed Nike to sign Jordan to not only Nike but his own line of sneakers, eventually becoming separate from Nike when they moved to Jordan brand.  As Jordan first took to the court in his newly designed sneaker, the shoe itself did not meet the requirement for the NBA’s uniform policy so they fined him $5000 dollars for that game.  Hesitant to continue to wear the shoe, Nike told Jordan that they would pay the fine as long as he wore the shoe.  What it came down to was the NBA had to now be more receptive to different colorways of sneakers as the ‘sneaker culture’ changed around the league.  Jordan dazzled that year making the All-star team, finishing third in league scoring and also winning rookie of the year honors. As I sat atop of the Canada 150 years sign that matched coherently with my sneakers.  The thought of how influential one man could be towards not just a game but all aspects of life amazed me.  It truly inspires one to always follow their passion and see just where that passion can lead them.

Checking In

During this 30day challenge ive found myself enjoying putting my poetry out there in a new format, but its difficult writing everyday. Although i love to write, some days i feel no inspiration, there is no spark or creative drive. On those days you find yourself struggling to even want to make a blog post, or even want to create. Then when you feel that way, you feel disappointed in not being able to complete a post even thought you want to. You find yourself writing any old thing but its not your best work, either way it definitely has been an interesting challenge that is begining to come to a close.

One of my favorite things to do is to collect sneakers.  My collection has now surpassed an upwards of 70 pairs and will only continue to expand. The reason I first got into sneakers was just through watching so much basketball.  I would see these professionals wearing retro Jordan's or Foamposites, even current stars older models like Kobe 1's or LeBron Zoom Generations.  It all really started for me in sophomore year of high school after a trip to San Francisco, California.  When I was there, I ended up getting my birthday present from my mom which was this pair of Kevin Durant 5 Elite.  This pair was the gold medal edition and even came with a pair of matching shorts.  My favorite NBA players sneaker was the one that really set my love for shoes in motion.  From here, it became an obsession.  I began to learn so much about sneakers, who was wearing what and what influencers were involved with it all.  This all coincided with my growing appreciation for style at the time as well. With an outfit that looked good, I wanted sneakers that would help complete that look.  So then came my appreciation for Jordan's.  Michael Jordan is to this day the best basketball player to ever play.  He was and is still the only player to create his own sneaker line, an unbelievable feat. As I researched his sneakers, it was easy enough to gain a great appreciation.  What made my love grow to the point it has now, is that every sneaker has a different purpose and a story.  Each sneaker is built for style, performance or leisure.  Behind this is the story as to why it was made or remastered. As many years have passed and my appreciation only continuing to grow, the sneakers I own tell a story themselves. With each picture, I capture of them, the story that behind the creation can then be put into words.

      One of the most profound buildings in Washington, D.C. has to be the National Monument.  The monument stands taller than any building within the city.  In the year 1848, construction first began in the center of the nation’s capital.  There was a stall which halted the completion of the remainder of the monument but that was changed in 1876 when construction began again.  By the year 1884, the national monument was completed and stood as the tallest building in the world.  Today, the monument is a major attraction to many visitors of D.C. as it provides great history to the city itself.  In addition to this, the architecture, construction and mass amount of time spent to complete it is unbelievable.  As I found myself sitting on the steps of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, looking out over the reflective pound to where the monument stood tall.  The array of people stood, sat and gathered everywhere around me. In front of me was a very detailed concrete sculpture.  The best part of photography is that you’re able to capture a moment in history.  In front of me was a moment in time that I am certain so many before I had captured, but nonetheless a moment worth capturing.

Consumed

With my heart heavy

I give to you...my pain...if its neccessary

I lay my sunken soul out across the ground

Im aching and feeling drowned.

They tell you are my birth giver

Yet you spew vemon at me without a filter

Im dancing inside the turmoil you created

Learning to be free from the hate you've given

Where is the release of these dangerous truths

Am i left to be forever consumed.
