DYLAN CAN GET IT ANYTIME HOT DAMN
Is it weird that I still love Holly Short from Artemis Fowl, despite wanting to gouge out the eyes of the author for not writing his characters the way they deserve to be written? He really shouldn't have the power to determine Holly Short's canonical behaviour and identity. I think I'll dress up as her for Halloween. I used to look up to her so much from the ages of 11 to 14. I think it was because she was one of the only female characters I knew who was described as not being white, and having a long nose, and being called cute despite that--and she was a goddamn elf in a horrible, horrible society that Eoin Colfer seemed to be touting as something wonderful, and she hated Lily Frond for no apparent reason besides the fact that she was blonde and had long, manicured nails--but she liked Juliet Butler so ????
I actually wanted to go to college instead of university when I was 12 because that was what she was described as doing. I considered joining the military or the police force. I think it was because I saw a lot of myself in Artemis Fowl--a friendless, unpleasant, physically incompetent, gifted twelve-year-old--and I didn't want to be myself when I was finally introduced to a woman who was tough and brave and emotional and not like me.
Despite everything that I am, and how messed up my mind is, and how hard I have to try just to function, I'm glad that I'm me now. In grade 8, I deliberately made grammatical errors in my assignments just to feel human. In grade 10, I stopped hiding my intellect and started flaunting it in an elitist fashion just to feel like I had something of value to offer to the world. Now I'm finally learning to stop writing every sentence as if it is a war against the humanity inside of me. I can finally use abbreviations, and freely make errors, and it isn't for anyone else. I can love my friends fully and without reservation, and it isn't a pretence that I wear because I'm afraid of how heartless I am. I might still be capable of hating those I love the moment they display the slightest discontent with me, and I might not be able to want another human being for more than their smile, and I might play at loving to be touched and fucked because the alternative is to fear it, and I might cry when I should be revelling in the life I have been afforded, and laugh when I should be solemn, but damn it, I'm not as bad as I used to be.
Yeah, definitely cosplaying Holly Short, if I can still feel this way about her as a character. I'll have to find and transform a catsuit, but what is life without challenges? For now though, I'm going to finish my goddamn Gender Studies essay, and memorize my lines for the musical properly, and start on my English essay, and bullshit my Film essay, and do my readings, and write poetry, and practice the song I wrote three weeks ago so that I can post it on my Youtube channel, and make a film with Yolanda, and YEAH. This is happening. FUCK EVERYTHING. I'M A PERSON AND I AM ALIVE, AND THAT'S AWESOME, OKAY?
YOYOYOYOYOYOYOOOOOOO THE GREAT GATSBY COMES OUT TOMORROWWWWWWW
