Nope nopity nope
I can’t nor do I want to imagine shorter Sherlock
Sherlock has to be long and graceful but also thin and sharp and willowy with his coat whipping around as if he were the eye of the storm and he looks down on those below. He has to bend and flit through existence with his mind as high as it can be, supported by his body and rising ever higher. He has to have a long body for John to explore and hipbones for John to kiss. He has to be grand and impressive not only in his speech, but in his looks, if only to emphasize his refusal to accept all that is passed surface level. If he were to be short he would have no presence.
John has to be short, strong, and very grounded, which allows him to keep Sherlock grounded as well when he gets to high. He has the strength and body of a creature of old, defenses up, shoulders back, chin raised high, prepared to guard blow after blow for himself of those he loves. He has to be steady and fit and solid but his height allows his mobility and his quickness. It allows for humility and for him to not be threatening always. It allows for comfy jumpers and such a soft face and a warm bit of a tum which could have been hard and cold. If John was tall he’d be of stone.
Sherlock has to be able to put things on high shelves so John has to reach on his tiptoes which makes the bottom of his jumper rise so Sherlock can catch glimpses of the skin around his waist.
John has to be able to lean into Sherlock’s chest and find his heartbeat at ear level.
Sherlock has to be able to rest his chin on John’s head.
John has to be able to look over in bed and see how young and small and vunerable Sherlock is, despite his façade and grandoise looks.
Sherlock has to be able to slyly lift one of his feet under the diner table and brush it against his inner thigh while John can’t relatiate with anything but a glare.
John has to be able to look at Sherlock through his lashes effortlessly, as he can looking up.
Sherlock has to be able to need to lean down to give his boyfriend kisses.
John has to be able to stand on his tiptoes to return those kisses, or grab his love by his collar and pull him down for once.
And also we don’t get enough Dom short people (team bottomlock)
Sherlock has to have experienced being tall and awkward when he was younger, all leg, always looking down on others. Which fueled the way he was going to live his life. Although, being so thin and sharp sometimes made him feel empty, like he could tip over, and he had nobody to keep him right.
John has to have experienced looking up st people most of his life, being determined not to always have to do so, not to always be dependent, to become unattached, but always subconsciously needing someone to look up to. Someone safe amongst the thrill of danger, someone he could trust. Someone that could always have it their way and it never be completely just “theirs” because he clung to the belief that someone out their might need him too.
I am very passionate about my height differenced babies if you couldn’t tell-
