“I don’t need a white knight,” she said, crossing and uncrossing her arms before finally keeping them crossed in front of her. “I can protect myself.”
Stepping closer, she let out a huff and tried to give a good enough answer other than ‘I don’t like being alone and Grandma Blathsin said to stick with you.’ So she tried something else. “You and I are like ying and yang. I can help you and you can help me. Let me stay with you and I’ll do whatever I can to help.”
Stature strong but eyes pleading, she added for good measure, “Plus we’re family. Family should stick together. ”
“I did not say you did. Yet you also do not need a nexus, pulling in any number of threats.” Why couldn’t the girl understand this, that even if they were blood that didn’t mean that Timber would be safe with her. Cousin or not, she was a danger and always would be.
“Being my family puts you in danger, the sort that I may not be able to stop. I am like Phel, I have too many enemies. At any rate, my training is not complete, I must spend at least some of my time in Hell, where you should never be.”
Her awakening had brought with it knowledge, but at the same time she was not entirely sure what she was supposed to do. Family was not exactly something she was used to, and Timber was so unlike the sister she had had centuries ago.
“I will leave you the means to summon me at any time, will that be sufficient for now? Until things can be settled properly.”
