“Hey Aa-” Jesus started, only to break off with a startled grunt as Aaron kissed him. Heat flooded through him, brows furrowing - but his immediate reaction was to kiss back, an arm coming up to clutch at Aaron’s arm. It took him a second only just barely managing to pull back. “What was that for?” he asked.

Paul stiffened like he’d been slapped, expression closing off as he straightened up. That was about all the answer he needed on that. It wasn’t like he thought this was something more than what it was - just something to do when the stress piled up and they needed an outlet. Just because his feelings had started unfurling didn’t mean Daryl’s would too and that was fine.

“No - no, of course not,” he assured him, the smile on his face brittle.

Paul allowed him his anger - his foot was stuck in a trap after all. “Let’s focus on saving your foot first, okay?” he said, frowning at the trap. “Alright, brace yourself,” he said, but didn’t give him much time for that, leaning down on the release clamps until the trap opened. “I can splint it, but it’ll need a doctor, that’s about as far as my first aid skills go.”

Summer really was a bitch without air conditioning. They’d managed to evade a herd - somewhat gracelessly, but they were whole, more or less, so he was counting it as a win. He turned, eyeing Daryl with a crooked tilt to his lips. “What would you do?” he asked, curiously, his fingers slipping into the inner pocket of his vest quick as lightening and emerging with a cigarette just as quickly, a glimmer of mischievous in his eyes.
