secret santa message: can u tell us about this children of the gods verse? you post so much and i can tell it's so well loved and thought out. care to shine that light for the rest of us?

oh man oh man i’d love to! it basically started out bc i was reading percy jackson for the first time (i think i’d read the first way back when). i’m in the car a lot for work and i wanted a nice and long book series that i could delve into so that turned out to be pjo. and then it was really just me asking @doctorkierans where she thought mon, lena, kara, bree etc would be. like who would be their godly parents. and then we just….. ran from there. dragged emma ( @moralstood / @laidirnighean ) into it bc of reasons.

so by now it’s all just talk. but then i made an aesthetic for mike. and then one for lena. and then bree and kara. and i had to come up with a loose plot bc i didn’t like the look of the post without a little sneak peek into what it was (even if it was never going to be an actual verse). and then it just…. started forming itself from there.

the verse takes place in two time periods. the first is when they’re all at camp. so they’re younger, around 17/18. mike is a son of hades. lena a daughter of athena. bree a daughter of poseidon. and kara a daughter of zeus. and it’s basically just them all getting to know each other and proving that their parents squabbles do not matter to them. there’s a great prophecy that brings the four of them together, which is concerning because quests are always made up of only three people. not to mention that the group has three children of the big three within it, so that makes it that much more dangerous. but anyways. it’s your typical prophecy. they have to succeeded or else the world will end by the hands of the titans. and the events kind of mush together the first five books of the percy jackson series. the quest inevitably lasts a year and they succeed, but not without it’s consequences.

cue the second half of the verse. it takes place ten years after their completion of their quest at camp and the four of them are out in the real world, trying to pass off as normal mortals. just very successful ones. mike owns two prestigious nightclubs. lena is a world class architect. bree is a marine biologist and kara is an astrologist. mike and lena see each other regularly because they both live in new york (and they’re best friends) but mike and lena haven’t talked to bree for ten years. kara sparingly so. which is difficult because the both of them are in love. lena with bree and mike with kara. though hades forbid mike from seeing kara (his drama and tension with zeus is the reason) or else the god of the underworld would kill the other three. (it’s not above a god to kill another gods children just to prove a point). and lena and bree are just too stubborn and haven’t acknowledged their feels ever. but i digress.

the heartache gets to be too much, though, and lena plans a get together with all of them but then doesn’t show. so the other three head to her office and find it ransacked and lena missing. as all demigods do, they have prophetic dreams and realize they’re a part of a new, far more dangerous prophecy. one to end all others. the giants are rising and they have to get lena back and find a way to stop the end of the world. again.

there’s lots of elements of the heroes of olympus that are implicated in the second half of the verse. the giants are located in alaska because the gods cannot reach there. the cure of achillies comes into play, etc. and… yeah. it’s all about friendship and loyalty and found family and all that. love too. heartbreak. forgiveness. TALKING ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS. because communication is key and they were all idiots that didn’t talk for ten years and….. yeah. i rambled but there’s so much to the verse that i am inevitably missing things. BUT. thank you for asking! i love talking about my verses, especially this one!

dkjfas THANK YOU I KNOW this is late but let me tell you hump day was rough. but we’re here not and i dON’T THINK I CAN PICK!!!! they’re all my kids and i absolutely cannot choose three favorites (im gonna choose three favorites).

i think my first choice is going to be a split between legit the first ever verse i wrote on here with @moralstood like three (!!) years ago and the second i wrote with her. so the darkest places and you’re in my veins (but welcome to the badlands gets honorable mention because kara kent is an utter masterpiece and emma deserves mad props for her). the darkest places is a continuation of mon/kara’s time spent caged up in cadmus and you’re in my veins is a soulmate plot with them back on daxam and krypton.

my second fave verse currently is chosen family that i have with @doctorkierans. mike and lena grew up together and basically see each other as family and mike’s a single father with a brilliant little girl named kaylee (think cassie lang in ant man) and it’s just really really wholesome and soft.

my third choice is…. gonna be another twofer bc i’m OBSESSED with children of the gods (if that wasn’t obvious) that i have with @moralstood & @doctorkierans but also mother nature. you know me i could literally talk about COG all day (i have LOL) but mother nature is basically pulling bits and pieces from i am number four & atla. the three of them all have a single elemental power and are guided by mother nature who visits them in their dreams.

hey i think you were the one who made that "lift with your knees, atlas" gifset of Kara, is that right? i'm pretty sure somebody stole it. url is karahells-stay-in-hell. didn't want to report them if they made it, but i remember seeing it from you first with your source. (what an EXCELLENT gifset, btw. the quote itself is like life-changing, and applied to Kara even more so!)

Oh no, they steal mostly everything I make so they definitely did not make it themselves. Their entire blog is made up of sets taken from other people. I’ve tried asking them politely to stop but I just get an influx of nasty anons after that so I’ve mostly just resorted to reporting their posts whenever they take mine and ignoring them. Thank you for the heads up, though! I really appreciate it.

Hi! First off you can ask me whatever you’d like! So no worries on that :) Second, I’m not that good at explaining things so I’ve found a couple tutorials that I think will help you (and are much better at explaining than I am). I use photoshop cs6 to make my gifs, so most of what I direct you to will be based on that.

As far as like, quality goes you just have to make sure the source video is of high quality! That’s where I start. So either 720p or 1080p (i try as hard as i can to use 1080p). THIS POST RIGHT HERE (the coloring porn section on this list is basically how i do my gifs) is a godsend and has A LOT of really helpful information.

Another thing that helps you get a good HD looking feel to your gifs is the type of sharpening you use. In photoshop you can either create your own or use an action, which is basically a shortcut – a bundle of steps that someone’s condensed into a single click.

I tend to resize my gifs and apply my actions before I get to coloring, just so I can mess around with different types. I’m a huge fan of curves, even though it can be very finicky. Here’s someone who explains it much better than I can. So I resize, sharpen, brighten by gifs and then add my coloring, which is really just me messing around for thirty minutes until I like something lol. I use selective color a LOT especially if I want to make a coloring that is very prominent in a scene stand out more. Here’s a tutorial that explains how to use selective color.

And…. yeah. It seems like a lot and sometimes it is considering some shows *cough* lowriders *cough* are absolute shit at lighting their scenes. Also I just realized I didn’t outright answer your brightness question RIP. But the truth is i hardly ever use a brightness layer. Unless after all of the steps up there it’s still not as bright as I’d like then I add a bit but it’s never above 50%.

My best advice is just mess around! More than half of what I learned in photoshop was me trying out different things! I know this is long rip and I apologize but if you need anything else just ask!

1+1+1 is basically a single!mom Kara verse where Mike is her son’s (Ax-El) kindergarten teacher.

The Darkest Places is a verse that takes place in the episode where Kara/Mon were held in the CADMUS warehouse and tortured by Lillian Luthor. Due to an sever case of kryptonite poising Kara loses her eyesight (and has yet to get it back thanks Emma).

The Death of Supergirl is just that. A verse where Supergirl was killed during the Daxamite invasion and then brought back via The Pit by Alex. ( @biologicalengineer & @shculdbeafraid are Alex & Sara in this verse yes).

Fraternity Wars puts Kara and Mike as presidents sorority/fraternity which are rivals but they also missed that memo (or just don’t care) because they’re sleeping with each other behind everyone’s backs.

Jocks & Nerds & Assignments is a high school!au verse where Mike and Kara arrived on Earth at the same time. Mike’s the football captain and Kara’s the quiet scholar. They’re paired together on a science project and have to work together.

The Morning After takes place in a universe where Mon and Kara drunkenly sleep with each other after a night of  heavy drinking at the alien bar.

Welcome to the Badlands takes place on Earth-4. Mike is a S.W.A.T officer and Kara (Kent) is a scientist at Star Labs. They have sex in the bathroom of a bar one time and then just never stop.

You’re in my Veins is a soulmate verse where Mon and Kara are emotional bound to each other. They share a birthmark on their wrist and for ‘political’ reasons Rhea proposes a marriage to join Daxam and Krypton (though it’s all a farce).

We’ve got one more that we just started where s1 Kara meets s3 Mon and then s3 Kara meets s2 Mon. So one doesn’t know who the other is and vice versa.

verses w/ max ( lifeandlocomotion​ ).

Black Friday is a verse based off the Ubisoft game The Division. Both Mike and Kara are Division agents called into New York to help with the aftermath from the dollar flu.

Endure & Survive is a verse based off The Last of Us. Mike and Kara are working for CatCo as reporters when the first rumblings of the outbreak hit. They’re sent to Texas to get the scoop but end up getting caught at ground zero.

Inside Out is a semi-college!au where Kara and Mike go to the same university. They have the same journalism class and Kara’s focused on becoming a reporter while Mike plays football. Kara’s discovered information about the government that points to a plan to instill martial law so they can go to war with the rest of the world but no one believes her.

Oceans & Skyscrapers is a typical surfer!Kara and skater!Mike au. Mike moves from New York to California and they end up meeting each other at a coffee shop one early morning.

War World takes place on a gladiator like planet (think the one thor lands on in Ragnarok). Kara’s pod never made it to Earth and she landed on the planet when she was seventeen. Eight years later Mon’s pod lands and by then Kara’s the Kryptonian that cannot be killed.

We an be Heroes is a powers!au where Kara can paint the future (except her own) and Mike can heal wounds (he loses his sense of touch little by little) by transferring them to himself. Kara’s a comic book artist and Mike works for CatCo.

Reputation Precedes Me is another powers!au that includes Kara, Oliver and Mike. Kara’s power is empathy, Oliver’s is pyrokinesis and Mike’s is power negation. Kara and Oliver are roommates and Mike is an orphan who lives in an abandoned warehouse before he meets Kara at a soup kitchen. Things work out and Mike ends up moving in with the two of them.

Give me hope in the darkness that I will see the light is a universe where Lena got kidnapped and held captive and then manages to escape, running to Kara’s apartment. Angst ensues.

The Little God is just the general universe where Kara and Kitty exist together. At some point they get married (kitty wears her armor) and then further down the line they have a daughter.
