Going a little insane about that Thomas and Jeremiah idea ngl. And some of this is just kinda repeated probably from my last post about this but uuhh yeah
Thomas talking to this engineer he knows is young and prodigy, but that's most of all he hears from the people that recommended him. But who is he? And Jeremiah trusting Thomas enough to share little details of his life. Then when they finally meet, Thomas immediately falls deep into his fatherly instinct but has to stay professional. Still, it seeps out in his words and mannerisms, and after they stop talking business, they get a little more personal.
Thomas thinks of inviting him over for dinner to meet Martha and Bruce. To treat him like an actual human being and not just a brain.
And Jeremiah, who's never had a father figure, never been treated with such kindness and like he's more than his brain, falls head over heels. At first, he doesn't recognize what he's feeling other than knowing he's attached and trusts him. But as they continue to talk throughout his project, he slowly comes to realize just how attached he is. His mind spirals on fantasies and what ifs. He feels so safe, like Thomas could protect him from everything he's hiding from. He's never felt safe in his life.
But Thomas is married, very happily married, and has a son that he speaks of all the time. Jeremiah shouldn't love him like that, and he wouldn't ruin that for Thomas. Thomas asks if he'd like to join them for dinner, and he has to decline because he doesn't think he could bear to be around Thomas. It'd be better to never be around him again once the project is over so he can get on with his life because Thomas has overtaken his every thought. But what if, what if, what if?
Then Thomas and Martha are killed.
And it hurts. It hurts so much. His one sense of safety in the world, the only one that cared for him was gone. Why didn't he just go to the manor for dinner when he had the chance? Could he have somehow stopped the tragedy?
Now, he only has Ecco. And the rest of the world would be shut out forever. Except forever doesn't last long.
Bruce. Heart of gold like his parents, professional yet kind and caring like his father had always been. Strong and courageous, slipping into recklessness to face a madman intent on strapping his neck with a bomb. The only piece of Thomas Wayne still left in the world. And Jeremiah isn't going to let this one go. Isn't going to lose him like he did Thomas. And maybe he had a real chance with Bruce that he didn't with Thomas. Maybe it was really meant to be Bruce all along.
