Significantly, this token is considered one of the earliest documented instances of an NFT functioning as a redeemable certificate for a physical artifact, most certainly the first aiming to bridge large quantity of a fungible asset, in this case it was the lighter.

A limited number of tangible lighters, styled after the digital artwork, were produced and distributed to collectors, marking an early foray into what would later be termed "phygital" (physical-digital) convergence. The token also featured within the Rare Pepe Party social game—an experimental on-chain ecosystem wherein NFTs were granted extrinsic use-value. As such, RPEPELIGHTER occupies a liminal space between collectible, utility token, and object of conceptual art.

Interpretive Notes:

Despite its prodigious edition size, RPEPELIGHTER has endured as a subject of scholarly interest due to its unique role in subverting expectations around NFT scarcity.
