The skilifts in Xelphatol are cool.
(ty to my very-not-interested-in-ff14 fp for reminding me what skilifts are called)

Day 353 : Xelphatol - Coerthas - Eorzea
Jour 353 : Xelphatol - Coerthas - Eorzea
Big Trouble in Little Xelphatol
“Forced to flee the Black Shroud for fear of the elementals and their boundless wrath, the Ixal settled the windswept mountains of Xelphatol more than five hundred and fifty years ago. Since that day, they have labored tirelessly to eke out an existence in these harsh and unforgiving lands, slowly but surely expanding their dominion over the entire region.”
~ Xelphatol
As the partners circle the huge ixali chieftan, Souji can’t help but watch the unfolding fight with some trepidation. Yosuke’s been holding his own, and overall, the trip through the windswept mountain compound has been easier than he anticipated when they first approached its gates. Something keeps teasing the edge of his consciousness, however, and he can’t help feeling like he’s missing something, that everything is just too easy.
Even now, with the chieftain on his last reserves, victory is all-but assured. Just one more attack, and he can stop worrying, they can finish their reconnaissance and-
-suddenly, feathers everywhere-
-suddenly, a chilling wind envelops them-
It only takes one bone-white feather, tipped in green, to strike fear into Souji’s soul. All of the iconography, the headdresses, the ritual weapons he’s seen now make sense. As a terrifying figure in green and white begins to materialise in front of Yosuke - who immediately goes on the defensive - Souji grabs the first card that comes to his hand. Silently thanking the twelve at the sight of the blazing sun, he channels all of his fear, his anger, his desperation into his attack, aiming it not at the half-manifested figure but at the chieftain, praying it’s enough to finish the work that Yosuke started.
With a scream and an explosion of feathers, the terrifying figure disappears, even as the chieftain collapses to the platform. Rushing to the hyur’s side, Souji grabs him by the shoulders, terror writ across his face as he sees the dazed expression on Yosuke’s face; tales of the mindless slaves left behind in the wake of countless primals flash through his mind, settling like burning coals in the pit of his stomach.
“Partner? Partner!”
The miqo’te has never been so relieved as he is when Yosuke shakes his head and then looks at him, confusion morphing to concern.
“I’m okay, Souji. I’m okay. That... that was a primal, wasn’t it?”
Resisting the urge to make a fool of himself, Souji skips the tears but pulls Yosuke into a rough hug, holding onto his partner for a heartbeat longer than perhaps he needs to. “Yeah.” He exhales, deeply. “That was Garuda, Lady of the Vortex. I don’t know how he was able to summon her, but-”
“-but this scouting mission just turned a lot more serious. I’m okay, Souji. I’m okay.” Yosuke takes a moment to pat the miqo’te’s shoulder before pulling away. “C’mon, partner. You know it would take a lot more than some birdbrain to take me out.”
It feels good to laugh, even a weak one. But the lightheartedness only lasts for a moment before they look at one another, expressions serious; their job isn’t over, not by a long shot.
