Everyone should have a small cheap multiband radio. It keeps you company on those quiet nights when there's nobody else around.
-This xhdata d220 runs on two AA batteries and gets good life from them, so you can pretty easily run it off a solar panel and a USB battery charger with rechargeables. It's not tecsun PL660 but it's half the weight and size, and I got it for £1.
