this art takes place in an AU where zhongxiao met before zhongli became an archon, particularly while they were still in training to become adepti (during the calm before the storm of the archon war). maybe 200 years prior to xiao’s enslavement, so hes still known as alatus here, the golden-winged king :> i wanted to explore what kind of people they were before they became god and yaksha! i like to think they wouldn’t have been that close, but they respected each other as warriors and maybe even have a friendly rivalry going on, sparring, patrolling tgt, or giving each other battle tips sometimes!!

and then yearssss later when zhongli saves him from his master & gives him his name, xiao is a shell of what he once was, and he’s lost the memory of a time where they met before that, but zhongli never forgets.
