My bad if I missed it but in case nobody has asked/you haven't specified but I have a question regarding your yqy seizure stuff!
Does your yqy have epilepsy regarding his seizures? Is it unrelated (or yet to be revealed)? If it is epilepsy, do you have a specified type or generalization? I'm very curious since I'm always looking for epilepsy hcs/rep as an epileptic myself!
whoops double-checked and found the answer to my last question! I love how you're showing rep towards seizures that aren't epilepsy related, I often don't see it in fiction and it helps show how vast seizures and their origination can be! Not a lot of people know there are different types so it's really nice to see it!
First off, thank you so much for your interest! it's a hc very near and dear to me due to my own med status, so I'm glad to hear from someone else who also enjoys seeing this represented in fiction :D
Now then, for those who don't know this hc: YQY has psychogenic non-epileptic seizures!
So no, not epilepsy, but still enough that it would affect him in this setting & intrinsically calls back to his origins here...! At least, that's my hope with how I'm writing this :P ... PNES, when it comes to YQY here, is comorbid with his C-PTSD from. well. [gestures at everything].
In my mind, the seizures began when he was fairly young (likely around 11/12), but got much worse after the Ling Xi Caves due to him sustaining a self-inflicted mild traumatic brain injury there. It disrupted what neurological corrections could've been eased or repaired by the caves, and eventually had these more severe symptoms last much longer than it would have initially -- if he never experienced that head trauma, his seizures would've eventually, naturally decreased as he got older and he would be left primarily with dissociation instead. It would inevitably be exacerbated by SQQ's presence, of course, but. even so... alas.
Anyway, the large majority of his seizures typically present as dialeptic and, in their worse states, will fluctuate in severity over the course of an hour or so (with seizing lasting about 6 minutes, mostly clonic).
When he was younger, SJ would first notice this because YQ would stop responding to him, or suddenly stop talking in the midst of a story. In response, SJ would inadvertently worsen it until he realized he just had to leave him be (which he hated, very much, bc he worried...). However, when it would wane, that's when they started meditation at first; SJ wanted to try to calm YQ down enough when he was even somewhat present again, so it wouldn't get worse. It helped somewhat with keeping YQ away from more severe seizing until it ended -- not as many 'obvious' physical symptoms, but still the absence (along with face & neck (& hand) twitching).
Now, with YQY usually being alone & being dissociative, it's much harder for him to discern whether it is dissociation or a seizure :'] so part of the reason MQF first insisted upon allotting time to spend with YQY was to make sure they were there and could monitor the frequency & severity... This is separate from any qi deviations, but it can cause one if it goes untreated, I imagine? I've set it up as sort of -- "you can seize without deviating, but if you're qi deviating you're absolutely having a seizure" for him, in a setting like this.
In Wick Remains: the System really was trying to kill him though. That was definitely an outlier... It took advantage of his state to take a stab at his heart too, since he was still in an already-vulnerable state -- it dragged him out of his dissociative state quickly, and triggered another one with targeted emphasis on the physical sensations inherent to that emotional tie to (losing) Xuan Su, hence why he was grasping at his chest. It is not only where their spiritual energies would typically coincide, but also where he felt the emotional pain of loss most strongly! Which the System took full-advantage of !
(The only problem with this is that YQY is stubborn and SQQ is even more stubborn and so he still wouldn't die. Even if it managed to find Xuan Su's spirit again, force it back into SY as YQY, it never had that opening of him being fully dead; the dream eater just twisted it so he died to better feast on SQQ's spiritual energy, since that'd render him even more unstable.)
but... yes. I'm rambling now but :] yay <3 I have a lot of fun putting significance into this, seeing how it ties into all else going on in YQY's life, and how both SQQ & MQF have learned to handle it. They care about him... (regrettably).
