A Tale As Old As Time.

Once upon a time there lived a beautiful Siren Princess; within her court was a Shadow Jester, he would throw parties for her and make her laugh when she was sad. The Princess and the Jester were best friends, they did everything together. However, one fateful day the King found out that the Jester was close to his daughter. The King was a cruel tyrant which ruled over the land without mercy, so upon hearing this news he stormed down to the throne room.

The Princess sat in her throne and clapped, watching the Jester with joy when suddenly the King bursts into the room. A stern frown upon his face, he grabs the Jester by his shirt and bellows loudly. “You dare have such close relations to my daughter? Someone of your stature is not worthy!” 

The Princess stands from her throne and runs to her father, begging him to heed his actions and not harm her friend. This only enraged the King further, his daughter was young so surely she knew not of how the rules worked. He tells his daughter to be still and let him speak.

“My dear daughter, do you not see? This Jester is below you, he does not deserve your attention nor your friendship.” The Princess shakes her head, she dared not to argue with her father before but now things were different. This was for the sake of someone she held dear!

“Father, you are wrong. Maxie is kind and loving, he make me laugh and feel safe. Surely he is worthy!” The King growls and slapped her harshly, she held her tender cheek and looks at her father in shock. He had never been violent with her before, such an act frightened her so. 

“Do not argue with me wench! I am the King and your father and you shall do as I say! Begone with you so I may take care of this fool!” The Princess bows her head, tears in her eyes. She worried for the Jester, what would her father do to him? Would he behead him or keep him trapped in the dungeons forever? She began to formulate a plan, it was risky and dangerous but it would be worth it! She bid the King farewell and left.

“Now, tell me. What is it you have in mind for my daughter? Do you plan to wed her?” The King asked once the Princess had left, firstly he needed information. What kind of rat was this Shadow? 

“Wed her? No Sire, I planned nought such a thing. I only desired to be by her side and entertain.” Maxie hoped that he would not be punished, he feared that he may never see the Princess again! The King hums and looks at the Jester sternly, folding his arms gently.

In the end the King allowed the Jester to live but gave him a warning, for if he tried anything then it would be his end. The day turns to night, the Princess sneaks out of her bedroom and into that of the Jester’s. She wakes him gently.

“Maxie, wake for me. I must speak with you.” Maxie yawns and awakes, he looks into the Princess’s eyes and was shocked. She had snuck into his room! “My Princess, what are you doing here so late in the night? You should be sleeping.” 

“I know, I am sorry to cause you strife. I came here to ask you to run away with me, I cannot stand my father’s tyranny any longer and must get away!” The Jester sits up, the look of shock furthering. Surely she kid, why would she want to run away? She was a Princess, she had duties to take care of. It made little sense.

“Run away? But Princess, where would we go? Your father rules this entire land, you could not go into town without being recognised.” It was a crazy idea and she was completely aware of this, however she wanted to be free. Wanted a new life for herself and for her dear Jester.

“We would go to a new place, a place called Earth. There we shall live amongst the humans and finally be happy.” The Princess smiled and cast a magic spell, a portal opened that was big enough for the both of them. Without a word, she gathered everything she needed and pulled Maxie into the portal.

“By the way, you can call me Xien.”

So I’m learning German and realised that gender neutral pronouns in German aren’t widely known. SO I used Duolingo’s pronoun chart and a post from tumblr for reference to create this: a table of pronouns that includes a gender neutral singular set!

If the original coiner of  the xier/xies/xiem/xien set sees this and notices that I’ve got something wrong, please let me know!
