copenhagen ,reykjavik (+how your name is written in thai?) 🤔

copenhagen: how many languages can you speak?: i know 6 languages. but i can fluently speak 2, struggle a bit with 2, and am just a beginner with the other 2.

reykjavik: do people usually have trouble pronouncing your name when you first meet?: which name though? if it’s bothy, then no one has trouble pronouncing it. they just ask why my parents named me this. but for xiuting, english-speakers do have trouble pronouncing my name.

how your name is written in thai?: for bothy, it’s โบตี้ (ugh i hate it, i personally believe it sounds + looks better in english) and for xiuting, it’s ซิ่วถิง.

berlin: do you find history or geography to be more interesting?: well, guess what, these two are my favourite subjects lol but i think i’ll have to go with history. i always see humans as potential and competent people who can create a new chapter in history.

helsinki: when did you last visit a friend’s house?: probably 2 years ago? me and my friends’ houses are soooo farrr awayyyy from one another, like, 50 kilometres lol

barcelona: beaches or cities?: definitely beaches, although i live in a very hustle and crowded city haha

5. favourite song in your native language?: ไกลแค่ไหนคือใกล้ - getsunova

13. does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions or traditions that might seem strange to outsiders?: well, we have tons of them! but the one that will sound absolutely strange to outsiders is the “พระราชพิธีถือน้ำพิพัฒน์สัตยา/พระราชพิธีศรีสัจจปานกาล”, a hinduist tradition that the royal family used to practice for centuries. it includes a large tank of water with deadly weapons that was prayed and cursed by the brahmas to curse those who betray the king. so all of the civil servants and officers need to drink that water and vow with their lives to serve the king. this was held annually to ensure that these people won’t betray and attack the monarch in any way. but if they did, they would suffer from those deadly weapons and fatal malady, and this karma will directly send them to hell for eternity. however, this was cancelled by king rama iv and never held again ever since.

16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with?: the one that i hate the most and is also agree with is easy access to sex/prostitutes. i absolutely hate how our ancestors struggled and tried so hard to restore and maintain our old civilisation, literature, and culture despite the changing of time, but now, some people has already seen our country as that thing. i certainly know that this is a problem that has been going on in our country for years, but i honestly want it to stop.

7. three words from your native language that you like the most?: อรุณ (dawn) ราตรี (dusk) มหาสมุทร (ocean)what i like about these three is that they all have pali-sanskrit root and they sound so soothing to me every time i hear them (o´▽`o)

11. favourite native writer/poet?: เจ้าพระยาพระคลัง (หน) !! he was a poet during the early rattanakosin era and omg he is so underrated nowadays! he was very fluent in both thai and chinese, and was very decent in pali and sanskrit too. he was also the one who translated the three kingdoms into thai like afhadsjkhafs LITERALLY THE BEST
