Just in case anyone is struggling with a sinus infection, flu or air pollution...I’ve been struggling with allergies and an infection for years with no relief. I’ve been using the neti pot with neilmed sinus packets that are baking soda and salt. They burn but barely seemed to do anything. Finally I did some research. We have a biofilm in our sinuses that is protecting the infection from being cleaned out. I read that you can use baby shampoo but I’m allergic...xylitol can also help. I bought Xlear brand packets and no burning. For the first time after rinsing I didnt smell infection. No side effects from the xylitol so far. I know it’s day one and I never review things that early, it will take a week before I see any significant changes. But it feels better. Just a huge relief. It seemed the neilmed packets were only irritating my sinuses further so I couldnt push them too hard to clean out. I definitely felt the water go into one maxillary sinus and no burning. I’ve also read iodine helps but havent used it yet. Scared to irritate my sinuses. Remember, use warm distilled water or boil your water to rid it of parasites. Update- I decided to use one of each packet (neilmed and xlear) probably in double the water you should use together this morning. I don’t think there’s very much salt in the xlear packets and my ears were really bad last night. Eustachian tube dysfunction and inner ear infection. I add the salts to the water as hot as it is on the stove not boiling but steaming so it can dissolve, I believe it wasnt dissolving before which might have been causing the pain. After the typical amount of water and clear mucus was rinsed out I felt/heard extra clear mucus come out. Then saw some white/yellow mucus. That’s disgusting but great. I’m finally reaching the infection and clearing some out! It’s only day 2 and I feel so much less pressure in my sinuses. My ears still hurt and are ringing but can feel movement and noise which is good. Less pressure. This is amazing. I almost cant feel the water in my sinuses, it’s so comfortable. *I’m also using nasalcrom nasal spray, and have used azelestine nasal spray antihistamine. I recommend either one/both.
