XLE.LIFE NEW TERMS 2026: Aerotropolis
Largely promoted by Riyadh, the city in Saudi Arabia which plans to open the largest international airport by 2030, an Aerotropolis is a city or urban area developed entirely around an airport. Existing aerotropolis hubs include Schiphol in Amsterdam, CDG in Paris and Incheon in Seoul. Dubai South is also developing its Al Maktoum airport and surrounding areas to takeover and expand from DXB airport by 2035. Aerotropolis contrasts and overlaps with ideas of an Aerocene, both forms of Skyworld Futurisms which look at development as an upward expansion into the atmosphere and air-enabled mobility.
