You'll have to take my word for it: 9, Forehead Kiss
She wasn't entirely sure how to feel, facing down the final results of the trial that had taken nearly four months to complete. It had been a tentative decision in the first place, to not testify on behalf of the actions of her late father. While she'd been asked the standard litany of questions to create a profile for him, she had chosen to present the evidence she possessed for the opposition, so to speak. Speaking against Section 31 was, unfortunately, equivalent to speaking against her father. Yet her new support system, Jim and Uhura and a surprisingly large number of the Enterprise crew, had inspired within her a willingness to stand for what she believed in. And she didn't believe in what her father had been trying to do, or what Section 31 had been trying to do.
Thereby, as she watched the trial unfold, she did not approve of what both her father and Section 31 had irrefutably done to Khan.
Admittedly the augment was still a mystery - bizarrely calm and methodical in spite of the physical and mental extortion done unto him by what should have been a lawful organization. Not unapologetic for the losses he'd caused, particularly with the Vengeance crash in San Francisco, but unrepentant also. He seemed to recognize he didn't need to match bars with the justice a court of law wanted to determine: his own justice system was more than enough.
But on the last day of his trial, when his sentence was announced and the final remarks were given, she found herself in the exit hall with him and what few members were allowed in the jury's private wing. His expression was otherwise unreadable, but in a moment of surprising and somewhat unnerving tenderness, he clasped her chin in his hands and placed a kiss at the crest of her brow.
He didn't offer a comment as he led himself away, and she wasn't sure what he could have said in that moment that would have explained the motion. She also didn't know if it would have mattered - everything now was set in stone, she thought. Even if, at night when she wondered what cryostasis felt like, it didn't feel that way.
