      ❝ i've heard of you, haven't i? ❞                  she certainly had, and her nonchalant facade was                  one-hundred-percent fake. in the grand scheme of things,                  the handmaid was irreplaceable and unforgettable.                  rose had the sense to know that everyone was important                  in the eventual outcome of her session,                  but the fabled handmaid was considered --                  at least, from rose's own scholarly perspective --                  one of the most incredible players in the game.                  perhaps it was her involvement with doc scratch,                  a figure she found herself studying more than most,                  or perhaps it was her distinction from the other so-called 'ancestors',                  but rose had always viewed the girl as an alternian joan d'arc, of sorts.                  she revered the other. she revered many, of course,                  but she really did respect the handmaid.                                     of course, some would call her studying her own history                                     something somewhere between extreme conceit                                     and absolute insanity. but rose tried not to think of it as such.
