We Need to Talk About the 100th...

Y'all are the missing the point if you think a mind-controlled Oliver -- on the verge of marrying LL -- slowly but surely feeling his reality pull him back as he realizes that other world is upside down, isn't actually brilliantly good for us.

(Disclaimer: I do think it's also possible and probable that Oliver and Oliver alone is the only one who can beat the mind control, in the process recognizing the strength and importance of who he is as Oliver Queen - not as GA - in the reality of now. That follows the theme of the season in which he needs to find & embrace his identity as Oliver Queen this time around.)

HOWEVER. That doesn't mean this can't be another message about the endgame status of Olicity.

Bear in mind that Felicity's path to working at QC had absolutely nothing to do with Oliver being on the Gambit. There's an argument to be made that she still works there/is closely associated with his family. Maybe she's head of IT now. Maybe she's been promoted even beyond that. Who's to say Oliver won't see her in passing, or actually speak to her, and feel in his gut this extraordinary sense of deja that he can't explain? Who's to say she won't end up saying something to him that we've heard the real Felicity tell him before, and it further triggers that feeling that things just aren't right?

If you want to go way out on the limb (but not so far we're falling out of the tree), who's to say the Queen family wouldn't follow the etiquette rules of basically every rich & famous family in history by inviting colleagues and business associates to their son's wedding... who's to say Felicity won't be sitting right there in the audience as he prepares to say vows to LL?

It's not, ya know, out of the realm of possibility that any or all of this could happen - or that Oliver could catch her eye while standing at that altar and just know in his soul that what's happening is wrong. Can't explain it, doesn't know why, but deeply senses the world is upside down. Maybe he even has a flash of the fake Olicity wedding. Maybe he finds himself repeating vows he said to Felicity in another life. Maybe he pulls a Ross Geller and inexplicably says the wrong name.

We don't KNOW, but there's an argument to be made for ANY of that. An argument that shows us that while no one else in Oliver's real life is able to pull him back from that state and beat the mind control... Felicity can and will. An argument that says that while the Laur*ver fans are having their cake, the real message is to remind viewers of the soulmate status of Olicity. (I will never stop laughing if I'm right, just so we're clear.)

I know my fellow XPhilicity fans can understand what I'm saying here. "Sixth Extinction/Amor Fati," anyone? Yes. Please. A thousand times, yes.

I could be completely wrong. Wouldn't be the first time since all of my spec skills were thwarted by the writers doing the opposite of what I would have done over the past year. But right now I'm bursting with anticipation to see how the 100th plays out, because there's so many ways this crossover we never wanted could in fact turn out to be the best thing that's happened to us in a year.
