Flowers
Sick: the condition of feeling physically or mentally ill.
We bring people flowers when they’re sick to make them feel better. It’s not the flowers themselves, but their implication. We bring people flowers to celebrate life, mourn the dead, and express a specific sentiment to people. Flowers are feelings, not objects. We hand other people our feelings in the hope that they’ll accept them, that they’ll understand something we can’t say with words. That’s what hearts look like when you bring them out into the open.
So it only makes sense that this is why we have this pervasive guilt anytime one loses its luster.
