The pain in her head feels like two trucks ramming into each other; a pounding and a crunching and an odd lingering scent of gasoline and rubber. She shouldn’t have drank so much, she thinks, but that’s impossible. A glass of wine or ten shots of tequila all have the same adverse effect on her sensitive body---at least for the consistency, she’s thankful. And it’s not the sort of pain she can heal away; the pain is all aching body and when she’s done her body aches more. Her magic is odd like that, so ready to heal others and pick apart her own flesh---apt, she thinks. That she’s spent so much of her life tearing herself into pieces for others that’d she be left to do that here too.
But that’s not her current predicament.
“GEORGE,” she screams, more a whimper than anything else. The cactus, her favorite cactus George, is sprawled out on the floor surrounded in a pool of its soil and shattered potting. Last night, she thought leaving the plant outside her door would give it more light. Now, realizing that she’d just kicked the plant, she begins to wish her power is bad decision un-doing (or time control, she would argue, but that feels like too much responsibility). “George, you---you---died so young!” She sniffles, bent over its carcass.
Hearing what she hates to note as a familiar clack of shoes, she snaps her attention at Rose. No, Rosemary (Rose is too personal, of course). “I’m not in the mood, Ms. Seymour.” More distance, as much as she can put. “Unless you’ve got a really funny knock-knock joke then---no, still not in the mood.” She sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose. “N-not that I’m ever in the mood for whatever you have to say!”
