it's just that ALL of their problems are because they trust each other too much. kiryu trusts majima with the tojo clan and with everyone that he's leaving behind SO MUCH that he feels like it's okay to leave. he can shrug off some of that suffocating weight and feel at peace knowing majima can and will handle it. and majima trusts kiryu with his metaphorical leash SO MUCH that he would literally do anything kiryu asked of him, including being miserable and resentful back in the clan he just escaped. and i love that a significant part of the resentment on majima's part is the resolve that of course he's going to do what kiryu asks, he'd do anything that kiryu asks, so why the fuck would he ask him to do THIS
and yakuza 3 spends so much time painstakingly establishing majima's misery and resentment at fulfilling his promise to kiryu, so you'd expect their reunion in chapter 7 to be nothing but antagonistic. and the beginning is, to an extent. you get the shape of a typical majima everywhere shenanigan but NONE of the tone, and it's incredibly unnerving until they get to the coliseum and fall right back into their usual paradigm. and majima is like okay when i stop being incandescently happy that kiryu is here THEN i can think about being mad at him. but he's never going to stop being happy that kiryu is around because he loves him too much. anyway
like man. in that last scene we see him in the game where kiryu is once again planning a suicide mission and majima is BEGGING him to accept the help before he gives up. it's crazy in there. kiryu trusts majima to essentially be his proxy (soooo insane when he asks him to take on the kazama family!!) and can't let him aid and abet his annual killing himself plan. and majima is a good and smart dog so he knows that kiryu is going to leave and keep leaving again and again
double-edged sword of perception in the dynamic of the century. to ME
top 10 kiryu y5 unhinged crazybananas moments
kiryu is able to interface with the world best through fighting + has explicitly said on multiple occasions that fighting is how he understands people and communicates + majima everywhere means that kiryu has fought majima more than anyone else and their fights are totally distinct from how kiryu fights anyone else because they're having fun + "i can never get a read on you." can anyone hear me
this was fucking crazy btw. kiryu. do u have something you would like to share with the class 🎤
i have to say i woke up very urgently in the middle of the night with the conviction that i simply must put together a starting rugby lineup of the yakuza dudes
