First appearance of the beautiful Meital Dohan
Meital (pronounced “Mey-tål”) Dohan has the best of both worlds: music and acting. Many may know her as Yael Hoffman on Showtime’s Weeds while others may recognize her work as Aurora in the television drama series, The Sopranos.
When Meital isn’t showing us charisma on screen, she impresses us with her music. Her debut single, Yummy Boyz is an electro-pop track with a catchy chorus and sexy lyrics. The mindblowing video for Yummy Boyz has already received more than 1 million views on YouTube. It’s obvious that this Israeli songstress and actress is taking the spotlight and does not plan to give it back anytime soon.
I talked with Meital about her first released single, the video, and her future career goals. Check out the interview below:
Lawanda Johnson: Let’s start off with Yummy Boyz video. Very different, humorous and even sexy. Tell me more about the concept of the video and why you chose such an eccentric concept?
Meital Dohan: I try not to take myself too seriously and I wanted to make a music video that would gently satirize the whole idea of sexy and what is sexy after all. The “Yummy Boyz” in the video aren’t the conventional hot guys – (especially Osama Bin Laden). But in trying to satirize sexy, I think I pulled off sexy. Funny and humorous is sexy. Don’t you think?
Also, there is the element of empowering women and giving them the legitimacy to treat men as sex objects as we are entering a new era where women have the power.
LJ: I definitely agree with that. Speaking of power, well, power of the Internet, Yummy Boyz has more than 1 million views. Congratulations! Tell me about your reaction when you saw the 1 million hits.
MD: I had an amazing team behind me and we all worked hard to make this video happen, so it was exciting for everyone when it went viral. Having such an immediate reaction from my fans felt really good because it means they want more. Going viral on the web is kind of like getting a standing ovation at a concert or play; it feels good.

LJ: Did you write Yummy Boyz? If so, what’s the meaning behind the track?
MD: In this day and age women have the power to determine what “Yummy Boys” are. In the past and present, men always sing about beautiful women and treat them as sex objects. In this day and age, women can do that too and this song is a celebration about men and their hotness and also a celebration about women.
LJ: Cool! Let’s talk more about your acting career. You have been on shows such as The Sopranos and Weeds. Tell me more about that experience/your characters and if you plan on doing more acting in the future.
MD: Weeds was an incredible experience and I got to work with so many talented people. Among my work, you can watch Sony’s series Woke Up Dead in which I co-starred with Jon Heder from Napoleon Dynamite and the feature film Monogamy with Rashida Jones and Chris Messina. I have some TV and film projects in the works that I’m also really looking forward to.
LJ: What’s your first love, acting or music?
MD: Acting came first because that’s what I did in Israel and what jump started my career, but right now I don’t see the music and acting as separate things. I’m a performer and I think I put that performance energy into whatever I’m doing, whether it’s a role in a TV show or a live show. My first love is performing, and acting and music are very much a part of that for me.
LJ: Who are some artists and actors that have influenced you in both careers?
MD: Artists that have pushed boundaries and really pursued what they loved regardless of what the masses thought of them. Everyone from Andy Warhol to Madonna, the Beatles and Sacha Baron Cohen. I like innovative, creative people who do things all the way. That really informs what I do.
LJ: Are you planning on making an album soon?
MD: I am in the final stages of my album, produced by Che Pope (Eminem, Lauryn Hill). On my Yummy Boyz remixes, I was very lucky to have fabulous DJs come on board such as Chew Fu, Hector Fonseca, Danny Verde, Electrolightz, and Dark Intensity.
LJ: Name three things that you cannot live without.
MD: Just three? I’m not exactly a simple woman. But hey, if I really had to skin the cat and pare it all down, I guess I’d make sure I had my lungs to sing, my feet to dance, and hands to make it all happen. You’ve got to be thankful for the basics – everything else is transitory and ever-changing.
LJ: Wow good answer, talk about thinking outside of the box! So what are your long-term career goals?
MD: You can discuss it with God.
LJ: Yet again, another great answer (laughs)…Any thing else you would like to share with Limerence’s audience?
