Suggestion for Hannibal Renewal
(Yahooscreen is the obvious candidate.)
A while ago T-mobile and Samsung made a film — Move On — starring Mads Mikkelsen. It was made to be shown on the net — it was never distributed in theaters or on TV. It had strong product placement of Samsung phones. It was a road movie set in Europe — Mads is a Jason Bourne type who is supposed to carry a mysterious suitcase through Europe to some final destination, having many adventures along the way.
But what made it so unusual was that this film was an example of participatory filmmaking: fans worked as extras and suggested plot episodes. And I have not seen another film made this way (with the exception of home movies) to date, but I have seen Uber and AirB&B as disruptive examples of what participation can to to established business models.
I think Yahooscreen should investigate this model and use the fannibals as their participatory partners. We already write fan fiction, draw, spam networks, do cosplay at conventions, and in general express the highest form of disruption the media has seen. Everything is already in place to do this except an agreement with a distribution network, and Yahooscreen is the obvious choice. (Yahoo owns Tumblr, where I am posting this, and has expressed interest in making films.)
So, Yahooscreen, do you want to be the Uber or AirB&B of filmmaking?
