I honestly can't believe it took me THIS long (5 years) to realize that the reason Misaki could see Yako to begin with was because he was close to the far shore, already close to death... and that's why Yako only ever accepted him and disliked all other humans, because he was literally the only person who saw her. but his death was predetermined, and that means her loneliness and confusion at his absence afterward was predetermined. AND. By the time she was introduced in the series, she STILL didn't have an explanation about what death even was, so she never had complete context for his disappearance, all that time. augh you guys i don't feel so good
