I just have a lot of thoughts and feelings about how Changelings are totalitarian rulers in the corner of the galaxy they were able to carve out for themselves but the second they step foot out of there they are cannon fodder and cockroaches and freaks and slaves and experiments and pseudo-sentient creatures to exploit, persecute or pick apart. It is bitter and sad, you know. The fact that your destiny of glory and greatness is just a lie, a facade you invented and hung on the doors of your home so that people could believe you were mighty and all-powerful when actually you are the galaxy’s scapegoat of choice because look at you, you don’t even have a form, you’re barely a living being. And I think it is really tragic that these people started out as nothing but spacefarers and explorers curious about a universe that could hold endless shapes and they were broken and tore apart and hunted down like animals and labeled as duplicitous evil demons until that is exactly what they chose to become, until they locked down so hard that they lost their very own flexibility and shapelessness and became a stagnant monolithic hierarchical structure of power that never changes and breeds only death and oppression of the same kind they have always experienced themselves and would experience in a heartbeat if their makeshift empire ceased to exist or even lost one ounce of the power it has. It is all it takes. You and your people are all living on stolen time, and one day you will lose the armor you built to survive and it will all go back at square one, you being the last of the last, the outcast of the universe, and the holy chants will go unsung. This is your real fate, this is what you were meant to be; the fact that you elevated yourselves as Gods is just a little pretense you are temporarily using to lie to yourselves about how you actually belong under the solids’ boots everywhere but where you desperately strive to reverse positions, and you send out a hundred members of your own in desperate hope to get proof that this isn’t true, that when they’ll be back, they’ll tell you about how even away from the Dominion, away from your precarious source of control and safety, they were able to thrive and be free. But you won’t get that answer. You won’t. You will hear tales of captivity and distrust and exploitation and appropriation and annihilation. Because this is what happens to the mighty Founders when they step out of their nest, right. And how long till that nest will fall. Every empire falls, eventually. How long till you all fall back to where you started and where you are destined to end.
So Artfight is soon and this year I finally intend to join! Today they'll be announcing the teams. So I've been uploading some characters and I have done an updated ref sheet for Yal! I'm currently doing one for Mewn also. I may also need to sit down and do a suitable one for Mudd too (as she had two 'forms'). Mostly these are character that have changed a bit since I've first drawn them, or would seem confusing to people without a ref sheet.
Yal info:
Yal is a traveller and priest of many faiths and likes to collect and share in religious knowledge of any kind. Yal is a prophet worm, his goal being to go across the universe and experience various religions and be a wandering priest to many and who goes around studying, experiencing and partaking in all religions to achieve a form of enlightenment. If you were to ask about who or what he believes in, his answer would be 'life, death and the universe itself'. However, he'll always hold a personal prayer and belief for the worm god of hope and rebirth. Life it'self is ouroboros and Yal finds he can believe in that.
He's a great character to inset into your own world building regarding religions and have him partaking in them. He's a scholar and willing to experience other cultures even if they are very different to his own.
He's a very gentle and kind soul, and this can put him at odds with certain aspects of religion. Religion that calls for unkindness and bigotry are easier for him to disavow if it's at odds with core teachings (be kind to others, not to judge, etc.). But animal/human/sentient being sacrifice is hard to ignore when it's a core part of the teachings. He'll partake, but carry immense guilt about it (especially in sheep/goats, which he feels are far too familiar). So Yal's personal demons will involve the various guilts surrounding practises that go against his core beliefs and caring aspects of his personality. Often they will take all the evils of the religions and come to him in the form of the sacrificial beats he may have helped to end the life of. But he's learnt to deal with his demons and offer them tea, for it's his burden to bear.
Could be a form of worm angel. He's bereft of anger and seems to survive almost anywhere with a cheerful attitude. No one has seen him flight though, but he will flap his 'wings' and they assist with no gravity/water.
