Go For It, Nakamura! Episode 5 Review - Jealous Nakamura: The Episode
This episode is just Nakamura getting jealous from start to end. It’s amusing to see how his behavior is different towards girls and boys. With girls, he’s quite civil towards most of them that aren’t named Reiko and have blue hair, but he hates all men not named Hirose. Also, Nakamura, I can’t keep defending you if you’re going to keep embarrassing yourself. I’m getting second-hand embarrassment just from watching him.
However, I do admit that Takeuchi seems like a nice guy. While he’s all touchy-feely towards Hirose, he’s doing it to get Hamaoka’s attention. I give him props for accepting her penchant for seeing men being all flirty towards each other. He’s catering himself towards her and not trying to force her to become what he wants. While his methods of trying to get her attention isn’t the smartest idea, his heart’s still in the right place…somewhat. Congrats on the new couple, nonetheless?
Nakamura’s jealousy continues to grow as Hirose develops an innocent crush on Otogiri after he saved him from the two guidance counselors due to his natural light hair color. I just hope this scene won’t be taken out of context by the antis who bullied the author because it’s just an innocent crush—nothing more will come out of it. Though, Nakamura is basically the one who takes the interaction between Hirose and Otogiri out of context as he thinks their feelings are mutual, but it is clear that Otogiri is just being nice without ulterior motives. This is also the part where the second volume ends, so to have it moved to the fifth episode here does make me wonder what they’re going to do for the rest of the story…I wonder how it’s going to end.
Anyways, this is probably the funniest Chiaki Kobayashi has been vocally and I’m all for it. On the topic of voice actors, let’s talk about some of them that were featured in this episode. Takeuchi’s voice actor is Yukihiro Nozuyama, who voiced characters like Zabu in Bucchigiri and Dice Arisugawa in Hypnosis Mic. Mukai, Hirose’s other friend, is voiced by Atsushi Tamaru who voiced Yodogawa in Tougen Anki, Azul in Twisted Wonderland, and Masaki in Tadaima, Okaeri—Tamaru participates in BL media often. Otogiri is voiced by Takuya Eguchi who has been in a lot of BL media like Ryoma in Love Stage, Akihiko in Given and Rei in Twilight Out of Focus; outside of BL, one might recognize him as Loid Forger from Spy x Family, Stoltz in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Tsunagu in With You, Our Love Will Make It Through.
What surprised me was seeing the names of the people who voiced the two guidance counselors. The female counselor is voiced by Kujira, who voiced Sakura Ogami in Danganronpa, Orochimaru in Naruto and Juno in Journal With Witch. The male counselor, Yamagiwa, is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita who voiced characters like Varka in Genshin Impact, Gintoki in Gintama and Kudo in Kowloon Generic Romance. All Yamagiwa did was make growling noises and Sugita gets paid for that…wow. Still, this BL anime goes crazy with the casting.
Anyways, I just hope no one gets weird about the Hirose and Otogiri stuff. We don’t need more harassers in our lives… Remember that this is fiction at the end of the day. I just hope that people will learn to distinguish fiction from reality because comprehension feels like it’s going extinct these days. Let me know your thoughts on this episode…
