LET ME TELL YOU A THING: YaoTing and why in my opinion it´s one of the best queer couples of 2014 (PART 1)
As you know I have recently become addicted to Taiwan Ordinary Love´s main couple YaoTing (Siyao&Xiaoting) and even though the storylines from the show are ridiculous, expected from a TV drama, I have found it to be SO WORTH the hassle of watching them (even skip some that are not directly related to YaoTing.) I got to say though, the hilarity of the plots have made me laugh a lot.
So let me tell you why you should be watching their story, by telling you about their sotry (makes sense right?) and why it is so important for someone who is looking for a good story about mature ladies falling in love and having a family. But first of all lets meet the characters:
FANG SIYAO

Doctor extraordinare, a mother, a wife, a lover. When we meet her she is married to Weije a college professor. She´s loving, understanding, always helping others, she worries even about people she shouldn´t. She is someone that would do anything to protect her love ones.
JIANG XIAOTING
(same source as Siyao)
Reporter, badass, witty, former college student, former cello master and also future mother of twins. We meet her when Siyao goes to her husband´s college where we later find out she is Weije´s secret lover. Passionatly loving if not a bit too innocent for her own good.
THEIR STORY
-WHERE IT ALL BEGAN-
As I have mention in their bio Xiaoting is Weije´s secret lover, Siyao doesn´t know about her husband affair until she visits his college. Before that Siyao sees a poster of Xiaoting and thinks she´s pretty:
And later they meet for the first time, Romcom movie style!
But then she sees this and all hell break lose!
Her cheating husband had this at home made by Xiaoting, and that´s when she put the pieces together, so what´s the obvious next step after finding out your husband has an affair? You go make the lover´s life hell!!!
She decides to befriend Xiaoting making herself pass as JASMINE
Of course you will!! You want to make this “slut” life very miserable! Siyao even becomes Xiaoting cello student to get close to her and find her weakness.
Oh Siyao, you´re in for a surprise in the future! Anyways this goes on for a few episodes, Siyao was even going to poison Xiaoting but she changed her mind when Xiaoting talks about her mother.
She even set up Xiaoting and Tzchi (Xiaoting friend –and later we learn he is her brother, but we will talk more about that later-) to look like they sleep together so Weije would get angry at Xiaoting. And so on and so for without Xiaoting noticing a thing, I did mention she was very innocent for her own good.
But unfortunately for Siyao, or fortunately? Definitely the former, Xiaoting has no idea Weije is married and she´s actually a very nice honest sweet girl, she then changes her view, both Xiaoting and herself has been fooled by this despicable man.
She tells Weije´s sister about his cheating and she confronts the guy, meet Weije, a psychopath, violent scumbag you would hate with all your heart for about 100 episodes.
Siyao manages to uncover his lies to all the school faculty while Xiaoting is distracted by other issues like finding out her mom isn´t actually her birth mom but her dad´s mistress that kidnap her when she was a baby O.o
Anyways, Siyao uncovers his lies and once they are in the car they have an accident where they almost die and Weije loses his memory…
But pancake, there is nothing interesting going on between this women… why do you love their relationship so much?
Oh dear followers, this is when things get interesting!
-TEN YEAR LATER-
Ten years passes without a hinch, Weije does not remember Xiaoting so Siyao thinks their marriage can go on until one day she rescues a girl from drowning and surprise surprise, it´s Xiaoting!
Counting this as their first kiss btw
Of course Xiaoting wasn´t around when Weije´s lies were revealed so she still thinks Siyao is Jasmine
And Xiaoting tells her about her situation with her mom and new found family, I did mention Siyao was very understanding and helping others. So she gives Xiaoting some advice:
Awwww what a mature advice she gives her, and what a refreshing view of adoptive parents, even in this situation, I like how grey Siyao´s view is about good and evil. From then on Siyao will be there to help Xiaoting in every way possible. Xiaoting even confessed she knows now Weije was married but said she hasn´t contact him in 10 years. Naturally Siyao is relieved, later…
Wait what? Baby? Soon Siyao finds her, it seem she has been looking for her for a while after she got a call from Xiaoting.
You have no idea how much I love the first surprise hugs in their relationship! Siyao´s face is priceless!
Not to linger too much on little things I´ll summarize what happened, turns out Xiaoting is still seeing Weije, he didn´t lose his memories and now Xiaoting is expecting his kid and he was violent to Xiaoting that´s why she was running away D: but Siyao should know about this right? Wrong! Xiaoting lies to her about the baby´s dad identity because she doesn´t want Jasmine to think bad of her for still seeing the same cheating guy. Remember, she doesn´t know Siyao is Weije´s wife.
Awwwwww I told you Siyao makes it her duty to take care of Xiaoting, it´s unexpected but she falls into it so naturally that is delicious to watch!
Siyao takes a care kit to Xiaoting´s job
And Xiaoting asks her to go out with her as “thank you for the care kit” lunch, so they pinky promise!
SO FREAKING ADORABLEEEEEEEEE!!!
Thing is Weije as I mention before is a psychopath and he believe Xiaoting is cheating him with Tzchi, remember I mention him before? Lucky for both of them Siyao notice him first and they hide:
By dressing as dudes!
IT IS! And also it saves them both from Weije!
One of the things I love the most about how they grow to love eachother is the deep friendship they form, when Xiaoting´s birth mother sues her mom for kidnapping she goes to Siyao for help and Siyao gives it, no question asked. She wants to help Xiaoting´s mom.
But everything can´t be “I´ll take care of you my dear dear friend whom I feel so close to” oh no! Siyao invites Xiaoting to a masked party and tells her to bring “Willy” the name she gave her bf. So they go there and YET ANOTHER HELL BREAK LOSE!
At the party Siyao finds out Weije has been lying about his memory for 10 years and is still with Xiaoting. Weije finds out Siyao is Jasmine and Xiaoting finds out Weije lied about the abusive wife who turned out to be Weije´s sister. So boom scumbag!! Your lies and deceptions has been exposed again! But because Xiaoting left before Siyao confronted Weije, she still hasn´t find out Jasmine is actually Weije´s wife.
So would things be like they were before? Would Siyao want to make Xiaoting´s life a living hell because she was Weije´s mistress for a second time?
NOOOOOOOPE!
That´s her thinking how she can´t be mean to her like before! Xiaoting asks her to meet her in her hotel room and obviously Siyao agrees at once!
While Xiaoting is feeling sad, Siyao doesn´t know how to act, push her away and slap her or pretend nothing happened?
Well...
Pretending it is!
But guess what? Xiaoting wants to meet Fang Siyao! Weije´s wife and see for herself if she is like Weije described her to be. She even google her, lucky for Siyao she never put pictures on her profiles on the internet hahahaha
UH OH! Siyao is in trouble!
DUN DUN DUN DUN!
Later JASMINE and Xiaoting meet to talk about Xiaoting desire to meet Weije´s wife. Even though Siyao tries to persued her of finding “Siyao” Xiaoting really wants to know! And the next parts I really don´t know very well what happens because it doesn´t have subs hahahaha but it has some funny moments, like:
Siyao dressing herself as a dude to spy Weije and Xiaoting on their dinner date (btw Weije is pretending to be sick so Xiaoting would pity him and stay with him)
Obviously Xiaoting figure it out that behind that moustache is Jasmine hahaha her face after Siyao winks at her is so cute!
So what does Fang Siyao does when Jiang Xiaoting is worried about some kids selling flowers in the cold weather? SHE GOES AND BUYS ALL THEIR FLOWERS TO MAKE XIAOTING HAPPY
This woman is so whipped for Xiaoting I swear. Unfortunatly Xiaoting gets hurt when two kids try to mug them but the flower kids stop them and as requested by Xiaoting, Siyao forgives them, awwwwwwwwwwww whipped!!!
Poor Xiaoting is scared of blood thou:
Siyao has an inner monologue on how Xiaoting wound is nothing compared to her wound left by the cheating and yet:
You´re thinking gay thoughts whahahaha
And then…
SHE KISSES HER HAND! To later excuse the gesture as a custom in german culture, right right.
Something seem to be going wrong with Xiaoting´s baby, Siyao sees a chance to finally break the only connection between Xiaoting and Weije… but.. as before, she can´t do it. Not when Xiaoting is baring her heart out, telling her things like:
I cried I admit, and this is the moment Siyao breaks:
“My heart hurts so much, not for weije, but for my child, and you…” “…you are the most, most important person in my life…” “…I already cannot do without you.”
Obvious conclusion she can get from this few quotes?
And she freaks out a little, when she goes out of the operation room Weije comes running and acuses her of wanting to harm his child, well he wasn´t far off but when the girl you´re kinda whipped for just totally confessed her love for you, that aint gonna happen. Also this moment is crucial because… XIAOTING FINDS OUT JASMINE IS SIYAO. But even knowing this she…
OH MY!!!!
Then there was more emotional breakdown (from my part) and crying (from them and myself) I won´t spoil you the dialogue, YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT!
So far we have two women, one the wife and one the mistress, wronged by a man but instead fighting each other for the man, the one that was resentful came to care of the clueless mistress until they formed a friendship so strong that love is leaking into it and making the wife think “OMGOSH I CAN´T HARM THIS BEAUTIFUL GIRL BECAUSE I CARE SO DEEPLY FOR HER” one hella twist to your usual crappy love triangle TV dramas!!!! Nothing I have seen EVER, specially from an asian show broadcasted for old asian ladies, from what I´m told for my friend their community is as conservative and the latinos, I can understand HOW EPIC this is.
Let´s continue shall we?
As expected, Xiaoting is hurt by her betrayal and lies, seriously who wouldn´t, I don´t blame her for thinking Siyao had other intentions cuz she did but you know how things are now so…
And again I don´t want to spoil you this big moment for them, you HAVE TO WATCH IT TO FEEL THE EMOTIONS!
OH THE PAIN! (Does this door scene seem familiar to a ceirtan one but less cool because the writers are shit? #nospoilers)
ANYWAYS!
This is when my heart fells warm and fuzzy awww
And so they begin their bumpy but epic romance!
