Everytime I see the discussion that fiction should be trimmed, controlled and censored I want to remind some that fiction is akin to dreaming. It's a realm of infinite possibility grounded in imagination; It can spawn both miracles and nightmares. It reflects a lot about our inner worlds and covictions they are ruled by. My favorite underrated star wars characters? The slave girls in Jabba's palace. I mean just. These women have lives and backstories that could truly be explored.

The blue twi'lek dancer with three seconds of screen time? That's Lyn Me. She's a singer for Max Rebo's band. She idolizes Boba Fett as a hero and fell in love with him since he saved her from slavery. She met him again in Jabba's palace, where she was essentially a slave thanks to Max Rebo's shitty management skills

What about the pink girl? Rystall Sant. She's half theelin, half human and spent her life learning all different kinds of dance, and she was great at it even with hooves! She was crazy accomplished before being tricked by a member of the black sun into slavery. And guess who's eye she catches? Boba Fett's

The drama you could have with these three alone. But there's more.

What about the pufferfish-esque main singer? Sy Snootles, aka Miss Snooty, has without a doubt the most wild life and probably the most screen time thanks to the Clone Wars show. She killed her lover, Ziro the Hutt, for Jabba after she believed he had left her alone on courscant. She became a bounty hunter all while keeping up with her singing career, first solo, then with Greeata, and then with the Max Rebo band. There's conflicting information on just how successful she was pre and post Max Rebo band, since her vocals were described as too weird (and she had a habit of improvising lyrics)

There's unfortunately not much on Greeata Jendowanian (the Rodian singer) besides that she formed a duo with Sy that was ultimately scouted by Max Rebo.

You likely didn't notice her, but Yarna d'al' Gargan was another dancer who had to put up with the most freudian bullshit from Jabba. She and her husband and their cublings were captured by slavers, where her husband was fed to the rancor, her children taken and held in Jabba's town house, and she was forced to dress like his mother and dance not for her tribe, but for her life (fun fact: she's Askajjan, not human!)

And finally, Oola. Poor Oola. Daughter of a chief on Ryloth, she dedicated herself to dancing at a young age and Bib Fortuna kidnapped her with the help of a rival, and he lied to her about Jabba's palace, making it sound like an amazing, beautiful place. She had the chance to escape thanks to a kind stranger, but she didn't take it. She quickly learned she had been played and was forced to dance for her life to survive in Jabba's palace only to be fed to the rancor

Those are only the ones we see in Return of the Jedi! Legends had even more, like Diva Shaliqua and Neelah. There's a lot of horror in their situations and also this common thread of dance being something they initially chose becoming the only thing that keeps them alive.
