i watched dead poets society blindly yesterday (terrible mistake) and read the book today. and in the book todd anderson doesn’t sign the document. he. does. not. sign. that’s so special to me. and also in book his parents are the literal scum of the earth. they get todd the same present and don’t really celebrate his birthday but when it comes to his brother’s birthday they go all out. and even worse, his dad use to call him ‘five ninety-eight (598)’ because that’s what all the chemicals in the body would be worth.* imagine my shock when i first read that. what the heck, dude. some parent you are.
*Text from the book:
“You know what Dad called me when I was growing up? ‘Five ninety-eight.’ That’s what all the chemicals in the human body would be worth if you bottled them raw and sold them. He told me that was all I’d ever be worth unless I worked every day to improve myself. Five ninety-eight.”
