There's this one guy in North Wales who figured out how to dye yarn that does wildly complicated things with colour. He's been at it for fifteen years now, never repeats a dye lot - you get it immediately or it's gone - and his wife names the colourways and does all the business side, and recently they started doing fibre as well, and when I want a very special treat, that guy is where I go.
Their business model is completely at odds with the current handcraft culture of Your Pattern Must Give Specific Yarn Requirements And Substitutes Suited To My Budget, Or We Riot, and I just think it's so important for there to be space for this kind of thing too.
Point is, this just came in the post and I'm going to spin it up for a friend who also enjoys chaos and beautiful things.
