H A N G O U T // Just a couple of flying foxes, hanging out at the Yarra Bend Park, Victoria. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Located just outside of Melbourne, this incredible location is home to an impressive 10,000+ Grey-headed flying foxes (Pteropus poliocephalus) over the winter months, jumping to over 50,000 individuals during summer as they migrate back to the area. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The area comes alive just after sunrise, as the animals start waking up after a long night of foraging for food. Still cold from the early morning frost, it isn't until the first rays of sunlight start to warm them up, do you truly understand the magnitude of this population. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Every branch of every tree is literally teeming with life, as they squabble and chatter with each other as the new day begins. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They are quirky little animals and an absolute joy to photograph and film as they gracefully fly, and not-so-gracefully land amongst the eucalypts of this gorgeous park on the outskirts of one of Australia'a largest cities. . . . #bat #fruitbat #flyingfox #yarrabendpark #melbourne #victoria #wildlifephotography #australianwildlife (at Yarra Bend Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4A59bggXtb/?igshid=1lxblngsrfw0i
