We changed the world, but, oh, the cost. ” He leans down to press a kiss atop her head and gives her one more tight squeeze before pulling back. “ The meetings are so important but so tedious! And people don’t want to listen! ”

While Japan was directly rocked by change, the rest of the world is having to be introduced to it from outside experience. It’s not easy, and the United Front is the front line of these discussions and negotiations. “ Do you think you could take over for me? ” The last part is a joke, of course, delivered with a wry smile. // i’m back baby | @yctsume

His chest felt like it would collapse under the strain of ragged breaths and the effort he took to calm his breathing down. The sun had barely set, leaving the sky still reminiscent of the color that was fading, replaced by eternal darkness.  The air was cold, but his skin hot and moist with sweat, hair sticking to his cheeks and to the back of his neck. With each new gust of wind, it felt refreshing to feel the cool breeze on his face, but he couldn’t help the shudder. Taking a step forward, his form hidden in the shadows by a margin, Jung-hoo waits for a few moments, seconds ringing with his increased heartbeats until she finally comes close enough.

 Arm stretches forward, long fingers like cuffs wrap around a slender wrist before he pulls her towards him. Other hand instantly on her mouth. 

“ Ken Kaneki sent me.” 

There weren’t many people that he felt he had some kind of debt towards or anything that could even resemble friendship. But there were always exceptions to the overarching rule, that was more or less, trust and need NO‌ ONE. “ They are waiting for you, I barely managed to get here on time, before it was too late.” As he held her close, Jung-hoo tilted them both to the right, to see what was down the line. At first nothing, just the other part of the street, apartment buildings, a passerby on a bike. And then there was a car, engined turned off, parked. Two of them were there. “We have to move, it’s not safe around here ANYMORE.” It was never safe anywhere, for him, it was the same. Always be vigilant, always be aware, always on the lookout. “ We have to go, UNDERSTAND?”

   “ oh~? do you? even after all you’ve seen? “  shuu peers at the girl ( almost a woman now ) from over the rim of his cup, curiosity mingling with no little amount of disbelief in his gaze.  peaceful? how laughable. truly,  he’s always wondered at some of the tales people ( human and ghoul alike ) tell themselves to soothe their own minds. perhaps she wants to appear strong, wise and shuu doesn’t want to deny her the sentiment wrapped in the form of a little white lie and yet, something about it irritates him, rubs the wrong way. it is stupid, naive to say with all they’ve been through:  it’s on the tip of his tongue to ask whether she thinks her mother was at peace, staring the doves in the face, knowing she’d be leaving her own daughter to their mercy. on the tip of his tongue to ask whether she thinks all the humans and ghouls they’ve killed, who died screaming, told themselves the same fable before death finally took them, violent and bloody. 

but despite his irritation, he knows the words would hurt;  and despite the irritation,  hurting the little lady is something he hasn’t wanted for a long, long time.  “ i do wonder. selon moi, i think we would not all be so keen to fight for our own survival if we were not all a little afraid of meeting an untimely end. there’s no weakness in wanting to live, princesse.  “ / @yctsume

He’s not used to asking for help (but when was he? the only person he’s ever asked for help was yamori. ... and shuu. so... persons. the only persons he’s ever asked--), and it’s made even worse when he realizes he’s barely spoken to Hinami otherwise. Admittedly, he’s not entirely sure if they were on friendly terms yet... simply because Naki could’ve said something stupid and not realized it.

Nonetheless, though, he’s approached her first and can’t take it back. Now he has to commit, and he kind of hates it, admittedly.

Tears stung at the corners of his eyes, threatening to roll down his cheeks at any moment (hell, he’ll probably start bawling right there the moment she opened her mouth.) all the while he’s clutching an excessively wrinkled sheet of paper to his chest. Splotches of what could safely be assumed as tears were sporadically spread over it, bleeding ink and smudging it.

“Um... Hey--” he paused to swallow, blinking one full, furious blink before huffing out a sigh through his nose, “--yer... yer good at this whole writin’ business, right?”

     “    i heard about tsukiyama-san taking you out  ...  did you have fun  ?   ”    when he’d heard the news at first he was  ANNOYED.  fingers had clenched as he wanted to grab the gourmet by the collar and shake him until his brains rattled.  however  ,  he thought better than that action.  he’d take diplomacy first  ,  make sure it was to hinami’s liking  &  if it proved to be  ...  he’d release his irritation.  his smile is genuine albeit strained at the thoughts of tsukiyama disobeying directions.  “   i know how ...  lonely you must be  ,  hinami-chan.   ”

               color blooms upon his cheeks in her wake, soft and dusted pale pink. a small noise of surprise escapes him, a questioning huff of air. he’s not used to this. touches meant to bring comfort and not it’s opposite, affection that wasn’t just thinly veiled harassment. he doesn’t know what to make of it, how to react.

               “ why did, um….? ”
