Ranting about rgu in relation to my own writing below cut so ummm. Saying just in case bc im general tagging it AHHA

RGU is very cool to me bc i was thinking last night it’s influenced my writing/art in both an overt and subtle way which is awesome… my favourite show… I really love how anthy and utena are written and it’s helped me sort of figure out how to write lucia and althea bc they are quiet similar dynamic wise…

Utena’s arc during the series is very similar THEMATICALLY to “Althea’s” arc over the books, with the whole “Finding a girl trapped in a horrific cycle of abuse and realising the only way to save her is to let her do it herself” (That’s also why i think the choice to make utena (originally blonde), blue eyed and pale is an interesting choice, her in the early series has a lot of white knight stuff going on which I kinda also had going on at the same age of dumb and 14) BUT ANYWAY

It’s also why I LOVE Anthy in the movie (besides the artstyle change) because beyond the strong implication the series ends it, it outright SHOWS the girls’ only way to freedom is with Utena simply supporting and loving Anthy while she works to free herself and take control of her own life. I really want Nameless (last book in my series) to have to same feeling with finally watching this girl spiritually spit on the grave of their eternal cycle abusers… Like Anthy, the books follow Valetudo (lucia) simmering in her own suffering until a permanent source of support locks the fuck in and helps her realise lifes worth trying to fight for again…. idk…..

Blood. Hands. Knees.

A child wanders from the town.

Leaves and stick crumble under their shoes, the scent of fresh rain, moss and mycelium covering the forest.

A familiar sound, familiar smell.

They trudge on, the same as every other night, this time less concious of the moth’s wings following their every step. It’s quiet tonight.

They clutch their pendant.

A pair of shoes and stockings wait on the other side of the river, watching the child go deeper into the darkened woods. It’s nearly midnight. It’s nearly time.

A deal made in hushed secret, despite being so far from any townsfolk. Every specific word comes back to them as they wait, feet sinking into the damp moss, a ring of little brown mushrooms around them. The same size their skirt’s outline would be.

Then the voice returns. Smooth, deep and disembodied. Almost as if it was inside their own head.

There are more moths tonight.

The smell has gotten intoxicatingly stronger.

Leaves and vines brush against their skin, some thorns catching and soaking in the blood. The rotting tooth falls between their fingers, no longer smooth and soft upon their collarbone.

The pungent smell of rot and blood overtakes the greenery, only for a moment, yet enough to make the child feel instantly nauseous.

The vines twist sickeningly around eachother, something crunching and squelching underneath, as if being crushed under the botanical gore.

Rust pushes itself out from behind their teeth. A splatter of blood drenches the moss, more dripping from their chin.

Knees. Hands.

Just like theirs. Reaching, closer.

A nearly identical face, covered in loose foliage and dark gold hair.

It turns unbelievably cold.
