A “Your Lie in April”-esque AU

Yuuri was an amazing skater when he was younger, but cracked under pressure during worlds at the Olympics and vowed never to skate competitively again. 

He skates stay close to me for fun and the triplets post it online

Victor comes down from Russia and claims to be doing so only to become Yuuri’s coach because of the potential he sees in Yuuri to become great again, which is true but in actuality he’s stopped skating because he’s sick. Really sick. 

They grow together and fall in love. Yuuri starts to compete and rises to the top once again. 

Until one day when during a competition, Victor passes out rink side. Yuuri stops his programs and immediately skates out to Victor. Victor promises he’s fine when he comes to

Victor keeps passing out more and more frequently until Yuuri forces him to a hospital. They admit Victor to the hospital and Yuuri goes to visit him each and every day, missing the GPF and Nationals

Victor vows he’ll be out soon, but they’ve given him mere months left. Yuuri tries to believe him but he knows there has to be something deeply wrong for a world famous athlete to be put on 24/7 bed rest 

Victor is slowly losing the ability to use his legs and he demands to go skating. Neither of them say it, but both know it will be for the last time.

Yuuri begs the night nurse to sneak him out and is successful, clumsily running Victor's wheelchair through the halls of the hospital They arrive at ice castle in the dead of night, but Yuko gave Yuuri the passcode to get in ages ago and they go in. 

Yuuri puts both his and Victor's skates on. He slings Victor's arm around his neck and supports him to the edge of the rink. Victor is grasping onto the the wall for support while Yuuri pulls out his phone and queues up Stammi Vicino. 

With one of Victor's arms around Yuuri and the other on the wall, they simply loop around the rink, recalling their wonderful times together until Victor can't carry on any longer. 

They silently drive back to the hospital with their hands entwined. Yuuri gets Victor back inside and is settling him into bed, he doesn't notice the tears streaming down his face until he's about to say his goodbyes.

Victor professes his love for Yuuri, leaving him absolutely speechless while still hovering over him. Victor pulls him into a kiss after Yuuri says he feels the same

For the next few weeks, Yuuri spends all of visiting hours (and often longer) with Victor, sneaking katsudon in for lunch every day. They watch TV or sleep or play cards or just hang out in Victor’s bed for hours and hours every day. Victor seems to be getting better and stronger each day.

Out of nowhere, one night Victor went to sleep and never woke up. Yuuri gets a call from the hospital at around 2 am, as he was Victor’s emergency contact, and knew it could not be good news.

Yuuri rushes to the hospital, and is completely frantic until he is given an envelope by Victor's favorite nurse with “ ユーリ” written across it.

Inside is a letter from Victor telling Yuuri that he’d been in love with him from the first time he saw him skate, explaining why he had really come to Hasetsu and that he had been sick for quite some time now. He apologizes deeply for his selfish decision to come to Japan and get to know Yuuri, but he doesn’t regret a thing. That the only thing he would change if he could go back in time would be to come to Yuuri much longer ago.

Next season, everyone suggests to Yuuri that he ought to take a break, but he hits the ground running creating a program in honor of Victor’s memory

He gives these programs everything he has (one of them being Stammi Vicino). Pouring his blood, sweat, and tears into focusing on this, practicing day and night. He wants to show the world his and Victor’s love, that him going to Japan wasn’t a waste of time

Yuuri ends up smashing Victor’s sp record, winning the GPF and Japanese nationals while getting second at both the 4 continents and Worlds all in the name of his love for Victor

When Yuuri is in Japan, he visits Victor’s grave every day and he talks to him telling him about the happenings of his life, feeling his presence as if he were right next to Yuuri. He hopes Victor is proud.
