A peek into our bedroom. This was one of the last rooms we painted, nearly 4 years after we bought the house, even though most of the house was done within 6 months after we moved in. Sometimes life is like that. The Bill Anderson photograph was our first serious art purchase, bought almost on a whim after Aaron and I saw it @peterrobertsongallery. It's a combination of several images taken from the same spot over the course of a day, which gives it an otherworldly quality that we love, more like a drawing than a photo. The light upstairs is moody and beautiful but not enough to sustain plants, so I hung several large magnolia branches to add an organic element and keep the bedroom from feeling sterile. This room was painted high gloss caramel baby poo when we bought the house, perhaps an experiment by the previous owner. Now, it's a dreamy, dusky purple, soft but not too feminine. I sat with the swatch, looking at it at different times of day and in different lighting conditions before deciding. I wanted something restful, sophisticated, and sexy, a sanctuary for whiling away any hour of the day. And I'm happy to say it's all that and more.
