I am so sick of seeing people, specifically white people appropriate any Asian culture. I'm sick of the hypersexualized image of the Japanese school girl. I'm sick of of the racial slurs. I'm sick of people making fun of accents, or mispronunciations of English words. I'm sick of people using their love for anime, or Buddhism or any other aspect of any Asian culture as an excuse to glamorize and fetishize Asian cultures when there are people who suffer because you lump and group these people into stereotypes that you created based upon your ignorant understanding of their culture

Yellow Rage: Listen A-whole

This is why I love spoken-word poetry. It really does give one the ability to express so many forms of emotion just by performing. I recently saw this video, and I instantly fell in love. It may be considered vulgar because of its explicit language, but it’s extremely humorous and informative. Their performance defied stereotypes, and generalizations. Orientalism is wrong on so many levels; classifying people, and their culture as “exotic” only shows how you consider them as “less than” an ordinary human being. Yellow Rage has multiple version of this poem, and each of them brings an insight into their thoughts and experiences. Asides from this particular one, I also enjoyed I’m a Woman Not a Flava :)
