now that he was five and a half he’d been transferred up to the bigger home in Derry for school. the other kid doesn’t look too much older than him, maybe a year or two. jack can’t gauge it though. he wasn’t used to talking to other children that weren’t from the group home, most of the ones he resided with were older anyways and he’d heard the term ‘street urchin’ thrown around a few times. but---jack wanted something more normal. a chance to not be like them.  he wanted friends that didn’t steal for one. friends that wouldn’t knock him over. friends that had nice parents that had a pantry of snacks for after school.  “ . . .’ey! uhm. . .how old are you? ”
