they make me want to hurt myself and others
You know what I really, really want? A modern AU where Geralt is broke af, taking on every contract he can while having two jobs on the side, and Yennefer is a rich businesswoman with more money than she knows what to do with, and some days, to relax after a stressful day at work, she goes to the nicest, most posh bar in town where she likes to get more than tipsy on the most expensive drinks on the menu and banter passive-aggressively with the manager who’d quite like to throw her out but can’t because she’s one of their biggest clients
And one evening there’s this white-hair guy who looks a bit in over his head, doesn’t fit with the vibe of the place and wears clothes that look that they haven’t been ironed in quite some time, and he’s very polite to her, because no one gave him the memo that he’s supposed to be an asshole to the lady with the black business suit who spends enough money to pay half of his rent.
She likes him, and his ass looks nice in those too-tight trousers, and she wants to infuriate the rest of the staff who is probably watching, so she slips a bill in his back pocket with a wink -- “just between you and me.” He sputters. He’s adorable.
She proceeds to get hammered on expensive cocktails, because she’s had a long day and she deserves it; the staff starts to close the bar down for the night but she’s still here and they don’t know what to do with her, so they dump her on the poor guy who’s just filling in for a buddy of his and tell her to bring her home. Thing is, she’s way too drunk for Geralt to get an address out of her, so he decides to take her home with him, to the dingy apartment he shares with Jaskier, and he lends her the bed while he sleeps on the couch.
In the morning Yennefer wakes up with a head-splitting hangover and discovers that the nice guy she vaguely wanted to fuck yesterday evening had brought her home with him when there was nothing stopping him from dropping her inebriated ass in a cab and calling it a day, and had given her what looked to be the only bed in the flat after what must have been a painful evening of standing around and waiting on other inseffurable patrons like herself.
And when this guy wakes up and his first reflex is to ask her if she’s alright and does she want an aspirin, she realizes that she has to peg this man at all costs
bday doodle for friend who i dont think is on tumblr :-)
I’ve been thinking about a Yen & Geralt modern AU where they've broken up months ago but they’re still on cordial terms (they had to be, at first, because lovers or not, they were still Ciri’s parents and they didn’t want the transition to be too hard on her; then they realized that taking some distance was actually helping and that they were much better off as friends) (because when i don’t ship them as lovers, i ship them as friends)
But everyone thinks they’re still together because it seems as though nothing has changed
They don’t live in the same house anymore but they still meet up several times a week to eat together; Yen has already moved on with someone else but they’re still so casual with each other, and they have so many inside jokes and shared anecdotes that her new lover can’t help but feel threatened at times; they even stopped sleeping together (they swore they wouldn’t anymore, because that’s always how they ended up getting back together, no matter how they insisted that they were just fuck buddies this time around)
But Geralt. Geralt can’t move on. He’s spent so long with her, he doesn’t know how to be with anyone else, and he doesn’t want to learn. He keeps telling himself that he’s fine, that he’s going to be eventually. Ciri’s worried about him. His brothers are worried about him. Even Yen is worried, and she wishes she could gradually put some distance between them and ease him into their separation, but she knows more than anyone how helpless Geralt is without her (and more importantly, she doesn’t really want to. Now that they’ve stopped sweeping under the rug all the toxic sides of their relationship, they’re actually really good friends, and you can’t spend years as close to someone else as they were without knowing each other like the back of their hand.)
I just want to explore this weird in-between phase where the two people have broken up but they’re still close and all the boundaries get blurry all of a sudden. We’ve had plenty of messy YenGeralt breakups in canon; now i want a smooth one where they finally face the fact that, okay, we’re no good for each other like this, but they’re still good friends (i want to think they have the potential to be)
Yennefer and Geralt are super thirsty for each other, they had me back at watching this season just for this. But like, the whole episode was AMAZING. And the soundtrack is so game-like. Loved it.

I’m rare to praise. But when I do, it’s sincere.
