‘Jeong Sook Hee’…‘Sook Hee’? Even her name is pretty, uri Halmeom….
Halmeom, are you watching?!
Kang Doo and Moon Soo name their child ‘Sook Hee’ after Halmeom.
JBL Week Day 3&4: Favorite Moments/Quotes [Belated Post]
MS: What are you getting angry for? I’m telling you, I’m really okay.
KD: You’re “okay”?
MS: Yeah.
KD: What’s so okay, then? Tell me. You’re okay no matter what anyone says?
MS: Let go!
KD: A little thing like you, why the hell do you keep everything so bottled up inside?! Don’t pretend to be kind. Even if you keep doing that no one’s going to recognise you for it!
I love this quote and this scene because it gets right to the heart of who Kang Doo is to Moon Soo. Moon Soo has lived by burying her pain, not letting it show, not even really acknowledging her feelings to herself. This is largely due to the fact that she never had a place to let her emotions out - both physically and metaphorically. Because Moon Soo was so busy looking after her mother and dealing with her mother’s pain, guilt and alcoholism, she learned not to acknowledge her own hurt.
Then along comes Kang Doo who deals with his pain in nearly the exact opposite manner. Kang Doo also struggles with PTSD and survivor’s guilt (not to mention a host of other things), but his solution was to lash out. When he’s at his lowest, Kang Doo actively seeks out physical confrontation because he wants to feel physical pain, either to dampen his emotional pain or because he believes he deserves it. It’s also why, as Halmeom tells Moon Soo, Kang Doo almost only ever does work that’s punishing to his body.
When Moon Soo meets Kang Doo, she starts to express her true emotions for the first time, almost in spite of herself. It’s why she dislikes him at first, because he gets under her skin in a way no one else does. And Kang Doo, in meeting Moon Soo, slowly learns to care for himself. She softens his rage into what it truly is - sorrow, and she’s there for him as he works his way through it.

They say that living is a process of getting used to partings...they’re wrong. There is no such thing as a person who is used to partings.
JBL Week Day 4: Favorite Quotes
KD: I love you...I’ve only just realized...that life’s way too short...even if we live saying only the things we want to say. I love you...Moon Soo-ya.
MS: I caused you so much grief. Even so you still like me?
KD: Mm.
MS: Why?
KD: Just do.
MS: geez...
KD: Do you need a reason? Even though I love you?
MS: No.
KD: ...Thank you.
‘I love you’....’Thank you’...in the end, these are the words that matter most.
JBL Week Day 4: Favorite Quotes
MS: Kang Doo-ya, isn’t the phrase ‘a prison of one’s own making’ strange? No one ever locked us in, so why aren’t we able to get out?
