Evan YHS Thoughts

HI THANK YOU THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME!

If I’m being completely honest Evan isn’t a character that’s on my mind a whole lot compared to the other characters. He’s the closest thing we’ve got to a regular good going guy. Simultaneously he’s immature (most teenage boys are tho) but willingly to put the work in when it comes down to it. Even though he’s pretty bland and makes little of an impact on the overarching story he’s very cool in theory.

I like the band thing he’s got going on, like he’s actually got a hobby he’s passionate about and it’s something he’s good at. Like I think we moved past the whole “yeah I played replacement for a semi popular band” we know his dad owns a pizza place and he’s Funnehs secondary love interest. That’s kinda it?

So here’s some outside info or how I personally see him that could elevate his coolness imo:

First off I love love the idea of him having an immigrant parent(s), and also possibly being a child of divorce. I’ve mentioned this before, how much of a fan I am of foils and Evan is not exception. What it seemed like to me in YHS is was there was in attempt in season two to create a very clear dichotomy between the love interest gold and Funneh were meant to have. What I think would have been fitting was rather than

Evan’s life being completely good and go lucky he did have a rough start and just went about dealing with it in a different way, him and Alec having rough circumstances but slight differences occur that they still end up in different places. So I propose him being a child of divorce, I can imagine his parents being hippies who met abroad and like traveling, at some point they have a kid and financial struggles hit so their marriage turns sour. Unlike Alec’s parents however, Evan’s divorce, overtime tension has subdued and he still manages to have a healthy dynamic with both. I think having some sort of dysfunctional background would add something to his character especially with the juxtaposition created with current circumstances with Alec. Also was watching sad Lisa Simpson edits (as one does) and the line “music always sends a chill down my spine” really resonated with me especially in relation to Evan. I’m sorry most musicians are like depressed and filled with angst I don’t make the rules.

I suppose I can’t talk about Evan without mentioning the love triangle (loud sigh), Fevan is great but I feel about them they way I do about most YHS relationships and that is, how many highschool relationships statistically make it? He kinda love bombs her and he brings up a kiss in a weird way once it had already passed but compared to other characters crimes that still makes him a saint. I wish we got a little more build up in their relationship especially when he was painted as being this better option but I digress. I think his whole potential contrast with Alec can exist without their entire dynamic consistently solely relying on Funneh and the love triangle. Side note that I can’t not mention is Evlec was like one of the first mlm pairings in the fandom and paved the way for things today so big shout out to them. I do think because he is the way he is though you can ship him with legit anyone and it would somehow make sense and be healthy, big claps for him.

I think Evan’s gonna go do some pretty great things in life, it’s probably for the best he never got too tangled into the web that is Yumis antics. Also can I just say “I got sold to exiled angels” fic would go SO hard. (That is a wip I have, we will see if it ever gets done). Sorry this one isn’t that profound, Evan’s a tricky character for me because we don’t know too much about him and he doesn’t have much depth, regardless thank you for your question it makes me happy to get to talk about this stuff!!

I'm not sure if you're asking me about ALL of the Funneh ships like every single one so to make this easier on myself I'll just go with which ones I have the most thoughts about

(Disclaimer: these are my personal interpretations of the YHS characters. Canon? Never heard of it. I say it's but a mere of a suggestion)

Funneh x Alec

They're okay. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I used to ship them when I was younger, but as I've grown older and as the Falec fandom grows more toxic, I just can't enjoy it. I do think their dynamic is interesting and I always kind of saw them as high school sweethearts.

If Yumi hadn't happened, I think they'd be a wholesome boyfriend and girlfriend couple, but break up at the end of highschool due to their differing needs.

Like those couples that have wonderful chemistry, but are incompatible in everything else romantic relationship-wise (ex: bad at communication, a need for more emotional support, commitment issues, imposter syndrome, etc).

I think they'd be both selfless but in different ways. Funneh is emotionally selfless, as in she would put her all into making the other person in the relationship happy at the expense of her own happiness (S2 Funneh. Her S1 version was a lot more selfish), while Alec is physically selfless, as in he does things for others without expecting anything in return and without any regard for his own well-being.

They'd be good adventuring buddies, but I don't think they'd be a good married couple if that makes any sense lol.

I don't really care about them honestly. I don't hate them, I just find the ship kinda boring? Don't really have much of an opinion on them lol.

Not like it's a bad ship. If you like it, you like it. Who am I to tell you what you're supposed to enjoy? As long as you're not hurting anybody then it's fine. Great even! This is just what I prefer.

Funneh x Evelyn

Oh, how I love these two! My sweet girls. I haven't made any content about them in a while, unfortunately. The fire has died down a little bit lol, but I still really like them and I plan on making more stuff for these two idiots in the future. Funnelyn-lings I will make you your food soon, trust. (Edit: <— I said like a liar.)

As immature teenagers I don't think they'd be good together romantically at first, since I headcanon Evelyn seeing romantic love as a weakness, while my version of Funneh is hopelessly in denial about being Bi. She figures it out once she gets older though.

But if I were to ever write a Post-YHS AU, when Yumi is either dead or in jail, Alec is in prison, and everybody else is traumatized and graduated high school; I imagine these two would get together at one point. Probably after a near death experience and they realize they'd rather die from the embarrassment of confessing to each other, than have one of them die before they got the chance to say 'I love you' to them.

They'd also match each other's silly energy and inability to feel negative emotions, except one is a workaholic and the other is an adrenaline junkie. The image of that is extremely funny to me.

Funneh x Yumi:

Ah yes, my guilty pleasure ship. The one ship that makes zero sense in any canon adjacent context except the alternate universes I create in my head. Saying I have a lot to talk about them would be an understatement lol.

Oh well. Yapping time!:

(PS. Please keep in mind that these are mostly headcanons. "Canon is a mere suggestion" is one of my favorite quotes after all.)

So, something about me is, I absolutely adore it when the hero (Funneh) and the villain (Yumi) are depicted as dark/light inverted versions of each other. Good with a bit of inhumanity and evil with a bit of morality or something along those lines. It's hard for me to put it into words. I'm trying to figure out what I'm saying too lol

It's gotten to the point where I REALLY want to write a POV Outsider fic of characters noticing how different yet similar Funneh and Yumi are, through the lens of an outsider like Gold or Alec.

They both have similar goals, yet use completely different methods to achieve them.

Both want love but have differing views on the concept.

Yumi sees it as something needed to live a successful/perfect life and something to be won. Not something to be given unconditionally, and without a price tag due to the horrible way she was raised.

Funneh sees love as an adventure. Something she has to invest all her time, focus and energy into at the cost of her own well-being and even safety to achieve.

They're also, at their core, very selfish people!

"But, Noi! Didn't you say that Funneh was selfless a couple paragraphs back?"

Yumi also has being needed/wanted as one of her core motivations. But I think that's what makes her such a good villain to Funneh's hero. They both have the same motivations, but what makes them different from each other is their methods.

That I did! But what I mean by 'selfish' is, I mean their motivations at their core are self centered. It just so happens that one of Funneh's core motivations is to be needed/wanted. It just so happens to manifest as a desire to help others reach their highest potential and the desire to make others laugh. It's like her entire identity revolves around the idea that she's "The Funny One." Like a beam of sunshine during a rainy funeral. Yeah, her joking at the worst possible times aren't the most appropriate, but it's all she knows, y'know? It's just how she is.

Funneh believes the moment she stops being "The Funny One" she will lose her chance at living altogether. Yumi believes the moment she stops "Doing It All for Love," she will stop being worthy of being alive altogether.

In an alternate universe, where Yumi isn't obsessed with Kai and Funneh isn't infatuated with Alec, and they're both in love with each other, they'd be freak4freak (in a silly way) but have no idea the other wants them too. I imagine Yumi appreciates Funneh's unconditional understanding of Yumi's imperfections, while Funneh appreciates Yumi's reliability and unwavering devotion to their relationship, romantic or otherwise.

I like to headcanon that they both have internalized homophobia, this makes things so much funnier because if you ask anyone who's seen them together if they're a couple they'd immediately go:

"Yeah, they're in love with each other. I literally saw them picking out rings the other day."

Meanwhile said couple is going: "Oh this? Nah, it's just a friendship ring."

For example:

"When Funneh asked to voice call her later that evening, a weaker woman would have said 'no.' But Yumi was not that weaker woman. So she took the opportunity, and with it, the call.

It was understandable, Yumi thinks. Just a day ago, they had the friendship equivalent of what can be widely considered a ‘lover’s spat.’

It was a painfully awkward one. Even for her.

It doesn't make Yumi want to punch a hole in the wall next to her any less, however. But Funneh might get upset again.

So, Yumi restrains herself."

Today’s September 1st. A Tuesday, and the first actual day of school.

You may be asking why I look so emo.

To make a long story short, I slayed too hard at my first highschool, was bummed out too much at the second, and now I’m currently attending Yamada High on what accounts to academic probation. I even have my own cop in my dorm! Well she says her name is ‘Kim’ and that she’s my cousin but she’s basically a probation cop. And a snooty one at that.

💛: “Oh, you have to go to the REGULAR literature class? Well, good luck with the PLEBEIANS, I’ll be on my way to ADVANCED PLACEMENT-“ Go away, I don’t like you.

But whatever, there’s this “cool” guy chatting up a storm with some other student, and said student looks bored AF. For the last few minutes he’s been making the rounds across Mr. Draco’s classroom (which I have no idea how; with the way he acts, I thought Mr. Draco hated any form of conversation) to try and… IDK sell them a used car?
