i read the sword of kaigen

and i have thoughts. i loved misaki and the mountain, i loved that i can see the crystal clear lake and i loved the horror of the fonyaka..

but i cannot get over takeru.... I CANNOT GET OVER HOW HOW MISAKI ASSUMED EVEN PART OF THE BLAME FOR THE "SILENCE" THAT WAS A PRODUCT OF HIS EMOTIONAL NEGLECT (AND ENABLING OF HER ABUSE) AND I DON'T ACCEPT THE EXCUSE THAT HE DIDN'T WANT TO BREAK HER COZ SHE WAS SUCH A PRECIOUS DOLL??????

LIKE THESE PAGES JUXTAPOSED AGAINST EACH OTHER ARE CRAZY????????????????????????????????????????????? NO MISAKI PLS DONT SAY U COULDA "BROKEN THE SILENCE TOO"???? LIKE U AT LEAST TRIED! U TRIED!!!! ITS NOT LIKE HE JUST CAME HOME FROM A TIRING DAY AT WORK N WENT STRAIGHT TO HIS STUDY HE ACTIVELY ENFORCED THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE PATRIARCHY ON UR ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP (AND ON UR BODY)

i just think that's insane and after everything even tho im happy they reconciled i wish more was done to hold that man accountable. and i admired his apology to her during the duel, and i think he came some ways to being redeemed when all was said and done,, but i do not think at all that misaki shouldve felt the need to apologise for not breaking the silence when even her most desperate attempts to have a present husband were met with disdain. i do see the point made about the burden of his own trauma and how his avoidance was a coping mechanism, and as an overarching explanation i accept it, but when i inspect the small instances of his neglect I cannot stretch it so far as to entirely forgive them let alone shift some of the blame onto misaki. (even though her journey to being a more active participant in her own life is one i appreciate, seeing misaki take ownership of this specific thing was upsetting to me) then again, it's entirely true to life that sometimes people apologise for things they really shouldn't and i liked the two of them finding strength side by side in spite of everything! that was nice! so really the book is still a 3.5/5 to me and that is a good rating.

wish there was a sequel because I want to know what happens with robin. but oh well.
