Chapter 1 summary: Li Lun grapples with his burgeoning feelings for Zhuo Yichen and complicated feelings about Zhu Yan

'Because I don't want to die,' Zhuo Yichen had replied, a look of confusion on his face. As if it was the only obvious answer. For most people, perhaps it was. But Li Lun hadn't really ever bothered with most people. He'd bothered with Zhu Yan. And that isn't the obvious answer when it comes to Zhu Yan.

Chapter 6 - I'll Be Back

It's late at night, yet the markets are in full swing. Crowds of disgusting stinking people chatter and laugh, and make inane 'oohs' and 'ahhs' at the wares on offer at the various stalls. Li Lun looks around in consternation at the whole affair. Don't mortals sleep every night? Zhuo Yichen seems to act like they do. It seemed like the people at the Demon Hunting Bureau did too, save for a few measly useless guards – though Li Lun had caught some of those sleeping on the job on at least three occasions. Why are all these stupid humans awake and here right now?

Chapter Four summary:

All of those concerns are furthest from Zhao Yuanzhou's mind at present, his head reeling from the events in Zhuo Yichen's rooms. He can't make sense of it. He's known Li Lun for so long. Thought he understood him better than Li Lun understood himself. He's always been able to see right through him. But now? Li Lun's motives are an enigma to him now. He knows Li Lun has to be up to something but he cannot fathom what.

Chapter 7 - I'm Glad You're Here

"Um, apologies for disturbing you, Zhuo daren. But there was a messenger here from the inn. They said your guest is overstaying his welcome and they need you to go pay his tab if he's to stay another night." "What guest? Who? What inn?" Zhuo Yichen feels like he must be mishearing things. Nothing of what the kid is saying is making even the slightest bit of sense. "They said his name was Li daren? Here." The kid passes him a piece of paper with the details including an address for the inn this supposed guest is staying. "I uh, I have to go back to my post now. Pei daren has me on notice." "Alright. Thank you, I guess?"

In the final chapter of this fic, Zhuo Yichen discovers what Li Lun's been up to since leaving his room in a hurry.
