Chapter: Chapter 11 - The Sound of Silence Word Count: 1380
"Can you teleport us to her?"
Ridgedog's lip twitched. "You think I didn't try that already, Lalna?"
"No, no. You're right." The scientist bit his lip, moving quickly through the darkness to where he remembered Yoglabs being. Ridgedog was able to pinpoint the coordinates, so it made things somewhat easier. "Something is strange though. These coordinates match with where Honeydew Inc used to be. You know, the Jaffa Factory?"
"Clearly this isn't home, Lalna." Ridgedog looked around cautiously, if he had fur his hair would be on edge. "I don't like it here."
"Stop!" A small voice shouted, making the two of them jump. Lalna spun, coming face to face with Honeydew. The small dwarf was thinner than he remembered, his beard cut short and small scars ran over every open piece of skin they could see. The dwarf stood a few feet away, a tattered gold sword held in his shaking hands. "Y-You're not...Livid." He sighed, running a scarred hand through his short hair. "Who are you - R-Ridge? You...You escaped?"
"Escaped from what?" Ridgedog's eyes widened.
"Xephos, mate. I...I thought he had captured you months ago. I didn't even know you were still alive!" Honeydew's green eyes shone. "There may be hope for us yet..."
Lalna stepped towards the dwarf, making the smaller man flinch and step back quickly and holding the sword up again. "What happened here? What's going on?"
Honeydew blinked with a frown. The frown made his face seem more natural, folding the many scars over and hiding them for a moment. "You...don't know?"
Lalna shook his head. "Honeydew." The dwarf flinched hearing his name. "This may be hard to believe, but...we're from a completely different universe. Things aren't as...dark as they are here. Please, tell us what's going on. I think....I think Xephos has our friend Kim."
Honeydew's eyes widened. "Kimmy? She's..." He shook his head. "Come on. Let's get to my base. We can talk safer there."

Honeydew's base wasn't too far, and had a good view of the Jaffa Factory. It had camouflage covering the small mound of earth he had made it from, making it easier for him to keep an eye on the once pristine factory. There were small chests lining the walls each labeled with small signs. One read food, another tools, and one read secret.
The dwarf sat at a table, Lalna and Ridgedog joining him. He stayed quiet for a moment, his eyes never leaving Ridge's body. "So...you want to know whats going on?"
"Yes." Ridge put his fingers together. "You said you thought I was...dead?"
"If what you say is true, and you are from another world, then you must have noticed the magic in the world is...off." Ridge nodded, remembering falling soon after coming to the world. "Its because something happened to our Ridge. He controlled the magic in the land, and without him its gone."
Lalna's eyes widened. "But he's a Reaper. He can't...die."
"No." Ridgedog shook his head, his eyes were closed. "We can. When I made you admins, I told you that there is a very slim possibility of dying if there is enough damage hurting you."
"Xephos figured out a way." Honeydew said quietly. "But not before taking your powers and using them himself. You said you saw him for a moment just after Kimmy went missing?"
"Yes. And he left a note." Lalna showed him the small paper.
Honeydew didn't look at it. "Typical. Dammit! Sips tried so hard to protect her...he lost everything because of Xephos..."
"Sips?" Lalna's throat tightened, remembering the exchange earlier. "We saw him earlier. He didn't sound happy to see her..."
"Of course not." Honeydew's eyes flashed darkly. "I told you, he lost everything because of Xephos. He put him and..." He bit his lip, his small shoulders shaking slightly. "He trapped them together for weeks...almost a month before Sips caved...it destroyed him. Sjin is gone..."
Ridge's eyes widened. "He didn't...?"
"No, he did..." Honeydew shook slightly. "And once his bloodlust was at its peak, Xephos just...let him go." Honeydew shivered. "He hasn't been the same since." He shook his head. "There are others, of course. Most are still within the building though."
"Honeydew. We have to get Kim back." Lalna said simply. "And within the next twenty two hours."
The dwarf stiffened. "She's gone Liv- Lalna. Once Xephos gets you, there's no escape."
Ridge slammed his hand on the table. "I refuse to believe that. We have to get Kim out of there."
Honeydew sat silently, shaking in his seat. He shook his head with a dry laugh. "I knew it would only be a matter of time before I had to go back..." He sighed. "Fine. I'll help you get in...but I can't help you past that. I told myself I'd never go back there."
"Thank you, Honeydew." Lalna nodded, putting a hand in the dwarf's thin arm. The dwarf gave a small smile, flinching at the touch.

Honeydew stood at the door, visibly shaking as he looked at the red stained marble. The giant sign on his face had become twisted with broken and missing lights. He handed them each a grey ring.
"We have flying rings." Lalna held up his hand which showed an identical ring.
Honeydew shook his head. "This isn't for flying. This will give you an hour before they'll notice you. Xephos made it during the time I -."
He stopped, shaking his head quickly. Lalna put the ring on his hand, and Ridge followed his lead with a frown. The Reaper grabbed Honeydew's shoulders, making the dwarf flinch harshly. "Honeydew. Did Xephos do this to you?"
Honeydew, although he was smaller and thinner, pulled himself from Ridgedog's grasp. He gave them another look and glanced at the once pristine Jaffa Factory before running back to his hidey hole. Lalna looked to Ridge, who had a distant expression.
"I don't like it here." The Reaper said after a moment.
Lalna nodded. "Neither do I, but we have to find Kim. And fast. We're running out of time." He held the device on his wrist up, showing that with the time spent with Honeydew had cost them a few hours. "Let's go."
"Lalna, wait." Ridge stepped through the door main door onto the ground floor. "We don't know where Kim is being held."
"I know this factory like the back of my hand." Lalna froze, joining him on the ground floor. The marble floor was red. Claw marks came from the base of the door and snaked around the red stained floor. He shivered. "Let's check the floors."
The two quietly made their way through the flying tunnel, growing more and more upset when they reached Honeydew's bedroom. The golem that used to stand guard over the floor was slumped in its cage, its head missing.
"I don't understand." Lalna walked up to the golem sadly. "We've looked through all the floors and there's no sign of anyone! Do you think Honeydew tricked us?"
Ridge shook his head. "Honeydew didn't trick us. He was more honest when we spoke to him then I ever remember." He looked down the hole with a frown. "Could they be below ground?"
Lalna looked down, noticing for the first time that the glass covered hole had been covered in black stone. "Its possible. Let's look. We've got a some time before these rings run out."
The two fell to the ground floor, finding the ladder to the basement. Lalna was the first one down, freezing at the base of the ladder. Memories of the Yoglabs back home flashed in his mind at the long endless hallway he stood in. Ridge stood next to him, a frown on his lips.
The basement was fully marble, red lights hung from the ceiling, causing the white to look bloodstained - like the floors above. Lalna shivered, a chill going through his back. The hallway was quite to the point of any small sound - their own footsteps, a door opening or closing - would make the scientist jump. Even Ridge, who was composed as they made their way down the hallway, was looking in all directions with quickly moving eyes. They passed many doors, even going down stairs before finding any sign of life.

Ridgedog stared at the small box that filled the screen after a few moments with a frown. The man the other end watched him with a raised eyebrow. Lalna stood over Ridge's shoulder, making the man on the screen smile wide.
"So Lewis wasn't pulling my leg about this." He shook his head. "So, you're Ridgedog and Lalna, right?"
Ridge's eyes narrowed, sitting in the chair that Lewis had pulled into the room for him. "Yes. You're...also Ridgedog, yes?"
The man smirked and gave a slight bow from his chair. "Name's Steven. But everyone calls me Ridge. Nice to meet you."
Ridgedog smiled wide, pushing Lalna from behind him. "So, you lead the games that these guys take part in?"
"Most of the time. Sometimes Lewis leads them. Other times -."
Ridge groaned. "Xephos was in charge of a game once and everyone cheated. I'm not even joking."
The Ridgedog on screen started laughing loudly. "Lewis did the same thing on our end here. Kim is usually better at keeping an eye on people, but she likes to play more than run them."
Lalna rolled his eyes, remembering the games that they were talking about. Lewis was standing outside the door, his face a deep red from hearing what they were discussing. The scientist smiled sympathetically. "I actually had fun during that game you...well, Xephos was in charge of."
Lewis smiled. "Thanks. I felt terrible because people kept breaking through the...You know what, nevermind."
Lalna frowned. "What's up?"
They jumped out of the way when both Kims ran down the hallway to this universe's office. Each carried a fluffy hat of some sort and Lalna's apprentice closed the door with a wink.
"Simon's had your watch for a few days and said he has some good news and bad news." Lewis told him.
"Oh?" Lalna's eyes lit up. "He's sick again though, isn't he?"
"He said he would be in tomorrow. You have a little over a day before you have to leave." Lewis smiled at the two girls who had just ran by, jumping at the roaring laughter from within the room the two Ridgedog's had commandeered. "Everyone seems to be getting alone."
Lalna nodded. "Duncan has been showing me what he's been doing in some of his other games. I wish there was a way to play them back home. They look really fun."
Lewis sighed. "Its too bad you can't freely come and go...its going to be sad to see you all leave."
Lalna sighed, leaning against the wall. "I know...but, if I'm ever able to get home I'll try to figure out a way to safely go between universes."
"I'd recommend taking a break in case this happens again." Lewis laughed.
"Hey, Lalna." Duncan poked his head out of his office. "Could you tell me some more about how flux works in your world? I want to know how to keep going with my apprentice series."
Lalna made his way to Duncan's office, letting Lewis edit videos in his own office.

Lalna, Kim and Ridgedog stood on one side of the table as Simon stood on the other. He put the device on the table with a small frown.
"Lewis probably told you already, but I have good news and bad news..." Simon said after a moment. The three nodded, letting him continue. "I'll start with the bad news. I wasn't able to pinpoint your exact universe's coordinates. At least, I don't think I was able to."
Ridgedog frowned. "And what does that mean?"
"As you know, there are thousands of possibilities. You've barely scratched the surface of the different worlds you can end up." Simon took his glasses off with a frown. "But, this brings me to the good news. Each world you go to has similar characteristics. Some universes have exact or similar physics or...magic from your world. Others, like our world, does not."
Lalna nodded, following Simon better than the others. "So, you were able to pinpoint the correct...similarities for us."
"Yes. But as I said, I couldn't get it exact." Simon frowned, taking a Jaffa Cake from the tube that was on the table. He offered the biscuit to the others. "And I think, I've got it so that you'll slide to two universes of the same set up. Maybe someone in those universes can help you."
Lalna smiled, taking the device and putting it back on his wrist. "Thank you Simon. I don't know how I could repay you."
Simon smiled, leaning back in his chair. "If you get back home, that's all I need."
The device beeped, telling Lalna they only had a few minutes left. "Well, I suppose this is goodbye..."
The other Yogs had crept into the room within the last few minutes, each sharing a sad smile. Hannah pulled Lalna into a tight hug.
"Good luck." She let him go, hugging Kim and then moving onto Ridgedog, who she frowned at before pulling him into a hug too. The Reaper smiled, hugging her back. "Take care of yourselves."
"We will, Lo- Hannah." Kim shook her head. "Sorry, habit."
The device beeped rapidly, and Lalna hit the button to create the vortex. Ridge was the first to go through, leaving with just a small salute before disappearing with a crack. Kim was next, leaving with shining eyes and running through the portal. Lalna stayed for a few seconds, giving a small wave to his new friends.
"Thank you for everything." Lalna said finally before disappearing through the portal with a crack.

Lalna stood up where he was laying where the tunnel had thrown him to the next world. He frowned, looking around the area. The trees were dark and the moon looked almost red.
Something felt off.
The trees seemed to dip in the darkness, and the moon's redness almost seemed unnatural. Even the grass, that the three lay on, seemed almost black at first glance.
Kim was the first to comment, she held her arms close to herself with a shiver. "H-How long are we here? The Flux feels very...bad here."
Lalna looked at his device with a sigh. "Just over a day..."
Ridgedog floated from his position on the ground with a frown. "Kim is right. Something is very wrong with this place."
"I can assume that...we're not home then..." Lalna sighed.
Ridgedog nodded, his eyes widened suddenly and crashed to the ground with a loud thump. Kim ran to him. "Ridgey?"
"Ugh...that was...odd." Ridge frowned, rubbing his head. "I feel...powerless...but the power is within the land. I don't -."
A soft whistling drift around them, making the Reaper fall quiet. He frowned, looking around the forest. The whistling got louder, before finally stopping. The sound of footsteps slowly moving towards them. Lalna moved closer as Ridge got to his feet. The three created a small protective circle, as the footsteps got closer.
Kim gave a small gasp at a figure that appeared across the clearing they were standing in. "S-Sips?"
The figure, who was standing still in the shadows of the trees twitched slightly at the name. They could see his head tilt, and a small glint from his mouth.
"Little Kimmy. How good it is to see you." The man's voice had a small hiss to it. Ridge put a hand on Lalna and Kim's arms. The man swung his ax to hold it with both hands. The blade was made of diamond, but had a dark red coating on the sharpest parts. "I could have sworn I took care of you when Sjin brought you to me the first time."
Ridge didn't wait another second and pulled the two away from the man in the shadows. He couldn't fly, but his speed was still usable. He dashed quickly, stopping only when he thought they were safe.
Lalna stumbled at the sudden stop. "What was that?!"
"Something is very wrong here." Ridgedog said simply. He looked around the area he had stopped at. "We need somewhere safe to stay until the timer counts down."
"Maybe...Honeydew Inc?" Kim offered.
Ridge thought a moment, his quiet thinking was interrupted when a soft yelp came from Kim. Lalna and Ridgedog spun to the girl as a flash of red disappeared into the darkness. A small piece of paper was left in its wake.
Ridge grabbed it, his eyes widening. "Lalna. We have to get Kim back, and fast. And I don't care how much of a risk it is. We have to slide as soon as we do."
Lalna looked at the note.
I thought she had died at the hands of the Vampire. To see her alive and well, I had to take her. The Flux is still very strong in her. Thank you, Livid for leading her to my base. The paper had no signature, but the page was stock white with a small logo in the top center. Yoglabs.
mod: the joke here in case you missed it is that lalna technically shouldn't know they're in the desert. part of the reason they went there was to hide from him. (feel free to delete this comment)
"Sorry guys. Captain says no."
