A Cold Day in July
It was a great day for fitness. Late morning, I summoned the children. We got in a circle and did stretches. (They absolutely love this.) We did butterflies, jumping jacks, the whole sha-bang. Then, my husband arrived and I was off for a run. Oh, the weather, such a fraud. It seemed cool as I warmed up, but it was crazy-humid. I always get this super power when cars drive by or I see people, then by the time I make it up Pearl to the trail, I'm half dead. Today, was slightly different. My sister called just after my first mile and I talked to her for a mile. Which was a sight to see, I'm sure. I was lifting up my left arm (my phone was in my armband) as I responded and chatted. Lots of extra effort required. So, my mind was off of the Pearl Street incline but again, felt like a slug by the time I reached the trail. Oh well, I made it. Recuperated for several minutes and we decided to take a family bike ride. Remi rides on the baby seat on the back of my husband's bike. Jude rides on the baby seat on the front of my bike. (Which makes it awkward to pedal but I like to think of it, as more of a challenge). And of course, Reis rides her own bike. Jude is really getting his sentences together. We rode by the pool and our conversation went like this: Me: Look, Jude, the pool. *as I point in that direction* Jude: Oh no, closed. We go tomorrow. Tomorrow. 😊 Such unusual weather we're having in July. Made it 5 miles and it started to rain so we went home. But really, what's up with the chilly temperatures and all of the rain? ☔ So, we get home, Allen leaves. So it's just the kids and me. I get my rotisserie chicken down out of the microwave and start picking off the dark meat (my favorite), stuffing my face.. While as I'm texting with my greasy fingers and chowing down, the children were eating, (or I thought they were), vanilla yogurt bites from THRIVE, that I had just gotten in yesterday. Remi favorites these. Apparently, that wasn't going on. The perfect vision of my children sitting on the couch watching the Lorax, indulging on healthy snacks, wasn't the case. I turn around and I see handfuls of Vanilla Yogurt Bites flying through the air, like confetti. And yes, the carpet is covered in dozens of yogurt bites. 😑 Why? Of course, they can easily be vacuumed up, but at that moment I felt like sweeping them up and dumping them back into the can, so when the kids were hungry, I could offer them those. My vacuum is one of my most prized mommy possessions, it's a Dyson and I would truly be lost without it. So the dust to yogurt bites ratio was high. (Don't get me wrong, I vacuum daily - this is a super vacuum). So that would be almost disgusting to save the dirt and yogurt bites. But it did cross my mind. On a lighter note, I'm super excited to announce, my husband and I will be taking our first overnight excursion (in five and a half years) together, just the two of us, this coming weekend! *and the crowd goes wild* We're going to Chicago. We're staying on the Magnificent Mile, we have Friday night reservations for The Melting Pot, and we're planning to hop on the train and get in a session, Saturday morning, at the Chicago Temple! 😝💃😀 Well, it's time. I must get ready to take the children up to the carnival. Maybe indulge in one more funnel cake. (I've already had a couple). I just never realized the divinity of the funnel cake. I was always an elephant ear kind of girl. I'm changed. 😁 And now - there are goldfish snacks covering my floor. 😐 Have a good one! 😄 "We don't have to wait until we cross the finish line to receive God's blessings." - Dieter F. Uchtdorf
